    PERRY COUNTY - Area residents have an opportunity to participate in cultural exchange. Both American students and potential host families are provided this chance through the Center for Cultural Interchange, a nonprofit organization.

  • Spencer County preparing for Lincoln jubilee

    SPENCER COUNTY - After almost two years of celebrating, the Spencer County Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Committee will host a culminating Lincoln jubilee Aug. 3-9.  

    The series of events, which will begin in St. Meinrad Aug. 3 and  offer something for all ages and interests, serve as a finale for the local Lincoln Bicentennial.

  • Tri-State nips Smitty's to win playoff tourney

    TELL CITY - Laura McClintic hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning as Tri-State Service & Maintenance beat Smitty's Memorial Team 6-5 to win the Tell City Women's Softball League playoff tourney Tuesday.

    Tri-State took a 5-1 lead in the fourth inning on Lacy Hawkins' three-run double, one inning after Kara McClintic hit a two-run double.

    Smitty's battled back to tie the score 5-5, though, with two runs in the sixth and two more in the top of the seventh.

  • Rockport team to play in regional tourney Friday

    JASPER - Rockport American Legion Post 254 Coach Jim Haaff has plenty to smile about after winning his 33rd sectional title. Rockport won all three sectional games at Jasper and were crowned champions Sunday.

    Post 254 started out full throttle Thursday playing Jasper. Logan Mohr took the mound and at that point had a 5-0 season pitching record. Mohr allowed two hits and struck out nine batters in seven innings.

  • Budweiser Clydesdales coming to Tell City July 31

    TELL CITY - The Budweiser Clydesdales will visit Tell City late this month, providing a thrilling start to this year's 51st Schweizer Fest.

    The famous horses and the early 1900s beer wagon they pull will arrive in City Hall Park around 11 a.m. Friday, July 31, and will travel the streets around the park from noon to 2 p.m.

    The visit is sponsored by Schweizer Fest Inc. and Hedinger Beverage Co. of Jasper.

    In addition to the Clydesdales, NASCAR fans can view driver Kasey Kahne's car. Kahne drives the No. 9 Budweiser Dodge car.

  • Questions remain about combining county positions

    TELL CITY - The Perry County Plan Commission met July 14 and decided they're "in favor of keeping things the way they are," county planning and zoning assistant Darlene Fischer told the county commissioners at their regular meeting the following day.

  • 2010 census efforts begin

    TELL CITY - The official 2010 Census Day isn't until April but a committee in Tell City is already beginning its job of ensuring every resident of the city is counted. The husband-and-wife team leading the charge said the benefits of a complete count will not only ensure a brighter future for Tell City but Perry County and Indiana.

    MICHIGAN CITY - Two prison escapees, including a convicted rapist who lived in Spencer County before being convicted, remained at large Friday after he and two others escaped from the maximum-security Indiana State Prison in Michigan City.
