  • Kiwanis wins regular season by three games

    TELL CITY—Kiwanis pounded out 11 hits to beat Coca-Cola 9-5 in its final regular-season Babe Ruth baseball game Monday.

    Kiwanis thus finished the regular season 13-3, winning the league title by three games over runner-up Franzman Insurance.

    Coca-Cola tied the game 3-3 with three runs in the bottom of the third inning on an error, two walks, a hit batsman, and a two-run single to left field by Chris Schaefer.

    Brian Arnold gave Kiwanis the lead for good, though, with a run in the bottom of the fourth.

  • Babe Ruth all-stars selected

    TELL CITY—The Tell City Babe Ruth League has selected its three all-star teams that will compete in district tourneys beginning next week.

    Tell City will host the six-team, double-elimination, age-14 district tourney starting July 9 and running through July 13 or 14.

    The age-15 all-stars will play in a five-team tourney at Evansville’s Wesselman Park beginning July 10.

    Tell City’s age-13 all-stars will open district play against the Nightmares, one of two Newburgh teams, at Haubstadt 5:30 p.m. July 9.

  • Kids with Claise finish unbeaten in 10-12 league

    TELL CITY—Megan Thomas singled home the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Kids with Claise edged Celebrations 9-8 to win Tell City’s age-10-12 girls softball playoff tourney Tuesday.

    Kids with Claise thus finished the season undefeated, winning the regular-season title with an 11-0 record and going 2-0 in the single-elimination playoff tourney.

    Celebrations, the regular-season runner-up with a 7-4 record, gave Kids with Claise everything they could handle in Tuesday’s game, though.

  • Froehlich places 3rd, Weiss 4th in national wrestling tourney

    ORLANDO, Fla.—Tell City Wrestling Club members Dylan Froehlich and Jeff Weiss earned medals for their performances with Hoosier Elite in the AAU national wrestling tourney June 23-26.

    Hoosier Elite wrestled 13 matches in the tourney and finished 30th among 38 teams in the all-star division.

    Though it was a team competition, individual records were also kept to determine the top finishers in each weight class.

    Froehlich, who will be a senior at Tell City, went 11-2 with five pins to place third and earn the bronze medal in the 215-pound weight class.

  • Frederick Sheet Metal takes sole possession of 2nd place

    TELL CITY—Josalyn Ress and Lacy Briggs combined to pitch a no-hitter as Frederick Sheet Metal beat Cash Waggner & Associates 10-1 to take over sole possession of second place in Tell City’s age-13-16 girls softball league Monday.

    Frederick Sheet Metal and Cash Waggner each entered this game with a 4-2 record. But Frederick Sheet Metal was in control from the first inning, when it scored four runs on three hits, two walks and two errors.
