  • Commissioners make appointments - Corrected

    TELL CITY – Perry County’s commissioners reappointed several people to county positions and approved a calendar for 2013 at their Dec. 3 regular meeting.

    The city of Tell City is kicking off its first-ever New Year’s Eve celebration with a myriad of activities followed by the dropping of a large apple. A new event, a post-midnight pancake breakfast, was added to the schedule this week.

  • Cail purchases former fire station

    TELL CITY – A bid made by the brother of a Tell City councilman for a former fire station was accepted Monday, capping a two-month process of finding a new owner for the building. 

    Brian Cail, brother of City Councilman Chris Cail, bid $34,379.63 for the building earlier this month but the board of public works and safety tabled action to consider that offer as well as Nita Claise’s proposal to swap the building for eight lots she and her husband own near Roy Fenn Park. 

  • South Perry Head Start students learn about trains, fall and more

    Classrooms from the South Perry Head Start program have been busy the past few months. Students traveled on several field trips and learned about various topics during October and November.

  • TC school hosts martial arts demonstration

    Jason Powers of New Directions visited Tell City Junior Senior High School and put on a martial arts demonstration for the physical education classes.

    The students participated in a warm up activities first, then practiced a few martial arts skills using a variety of equipment that he brought for the demonstration. The demonstration was made possible through the Welborn Baptist Foundation Coordinated School Health Grant awarded to the junior high school.     First Baptist Christmas Eve service
    TELL CITY – Tell City First Baptist Church, 802 13th Street, will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 24.
    The service will feature scripture readings, carol singing and a message from Dr. Clayton Jefford. The community is invited to attend and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

  • 38th annual symphony Sunday at First Christian Church

    OWENSBORO, Ky. – The 10:30AM service at Owensboro’s First Christian Church Sunday will be the 38th Annual Symphony Sunday.  
    In addition to the talents of Sheila Ann Miller’s choir and Phyllis Newman on organ, 16 members of the Ow-ensboro Symphony Orchestra will be an integral part of the worship service.

  • Crèches on display at Archabbey Library

    ST. MEINRAD – An exhibit of Christmas crèches from around the world will be on display in the Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library through Jan. 10.

    The display features crèches from the monastery collection, as well as from the Catherine A. Smith Nativity Collection, which was donated to Saint Meinrad in 2002 in memory of Charles Patrick “Pat” Smith.

  • Perry County Head Starts accepting new preschool students

    PERRY COUNTY – The Lincoln Hills Development Corp. Head Start program is accepting applications for enrollment now.
    The Head Start preschool is a federally funded preschool for children who are 3 to 5 years of age and meet the income guidelines.
    The program includes the following services: education, health, nutrition, social and emotional development and transportation.
