MUNCIE - The Indiana Department of Homeland Security is putting its trust in Ball State University public relations student Megan Newton of Tell City, who is part of a team developing the agency's crisis communications.

Under the leadership of Robert Pritchard, an associate professor of journalism who directs the university's public-relations program, a seven-member student team from Cardinal Communications is currently researching and assembling a crisis communications protocol for IDHS.

LINCOLN CITY - Justin Alvarez, Jessie Lawalin, Matt Sabelhaus and James Payne won their weight classes to lead Tell City to a tie for second place in the PAC junior high wrestling tourney Saturday.

Tell City and Pike Central each scored 201 points, eight behind champion Heritage Hills.

Payne pinned all three of his opponents in the heavyweight class.

He nailed John Johnson of Gibson Southern in 11 seconds and Dalton Miller of Pike Central in 11.7 seconds to reach the finals.

TELL CITY - Despite a lack of numbers, Tell City girls track coach Katie Chinn hopes her team's strength in the throws and distance races will offset a lack of experienced sprinters.

The Marksmen have 16 girls on their roster, one more than last year but three fewer than the previous year.

"We'll probably be strongest in the throws and distance events," said Chinn, in her first year as head coach after serving as assistant coach the last two years.

TELL CITY - Coach Chris Hollinden thinks Tell City's boys track team has enough balance to win its first conference title in 14 years.

The Marksmen have a deep team again, with 38 boys. It's even pretty balanced by classes, with 12 seniors and 13 freshmen.

The Marksmen have climbed from seventh to third to second in the PAC in Hollinden's first three years as coach.

Now Hollinden thinks they should be favored to win it, though they might not have as many individual standouts as they've had in some years.
