  • Arrests pending in more than 20 break-ins

    ROCKPORT - A sheriff's department detective in Spencer County said arrests are pending in more than 20 home and vehicle break-ins that have occurred in recent months in Perry, Spencer and Dubois counties.

    Chris King said Thursday he was finalizing his report that is expected to lead to charges against up to three people. Most of the incidents, he said, involved thefts of small amounts of money and items from vehicles.

  • Ludwig to visit TC Public Library Saturday

    TELL CITY - Deborah Ludwig, author of "Rebirth: A Leukemia Survivor's Journal of Healing during Chemotherapy, Bone Marrow Transplant, and Recovery," will hold a book signing, reading and discussion at the Tell City-Perry County Public Library at 1 p.m. Dec. 19.

    The library staff invites the community to this event. "Rebirth" is Ludwig's year-long journal written during her leukemia treatments that chronicles a story of love, sacrifice, heartache and discovery that culminated in her physical, emotional and spiritual rebirth.

  • Perry County book on sale for Christmas

    PERRY COUNTY - The Perry County Chamber of Commerce announces a sale on the "Perry County: Then and Now" book by Michael Rutherford. The sale will continue through the end of the year with the book costing $50, tax included.

    The Perry County History Book is a standard library-size, hardbound, 288-page book with a full-color cover.  The book was reprinted last year by request.

    Copies can be picked up by calling the chamber office or by visiting area retailers.

  • Legion host New Year's Eve party

    TELL CITY - American Legion Post 213 in Tell City will hold a New Year's Eve party from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Doors will open at 8 p.m.

    The band Crosswinds will play 50s and 60s rock 'n roll and country music all night.

    Sandwiches, chips, pretzels and party favors will be furnished. Beer and well drinks are $1.75 each and draft is $1.

    Tickets are on sale now at the Legion. Advance ticket costs are $10 for a single ticket or $15 for couples. Price at the door is $15 for singles and $20 for couples.

  • VNA to offer blood-pressure screenings

    TELL CITY - Visiting Nurse Association will offer free blood screenings at Wal-Mart and Twilight Towers in Tell City.  

    Screenings are 8:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5 and 19 at Wal-Mart and from 9 to 10 a.m. Dec. 22 and Jan. 26 at Twilight Towers.

  • Festival of Lights Saturday

    SANTA CLAUS - The neighborhoods of Christmas Lake Village in Santa Claus will host the 25th annual Festival of Lights from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

    Over eight tour miles will be decorated with thousands of lights, Christmas decorations and animated displays.

    A live nativity scene will also be set up. A gingerbread recreation center will be available with free refreshments.

    Special awards for the best neighborhood theme, individual home and kids' selection will be given.

  • Still time to win new Camaro

    PERRY COUNTY - Chances for a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro are now being sold by the Perry County Fraternal Order of Police ahead of a Dec. 23 drawing.

    Tickets are $10 each or six for $50 and can be purchased from any FOP member or by calling Brian Greulich at 547-8741. Proceeds will benefit FOP programs, including Shop with a Cop, a project that pairs local children and officers for pre-Christmas shopping trips for clothing and toys.

  • Catholic Charities offering new, used coats, all at no charge

    TELL CITY - Catholic Charities has a wide assortment of new and used coats available for anyone needing one.

    Sizes range from infant (boys and girls) through adult (men and women). There is no charge for these coats.

  • PC Junior Women to host event Saturday

    TELL CITY - The Perry County Junior Women will host a Sweets, Treats and Santa event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Schergens Center in Tell City.

    A lunch will be served, including pizza, cookies and drink. The cost is $3 per child and adults may eat with their children for $2.

    Craft activities with Santa will be available and goodie bags will be given to the first 100 children. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the event.

    Photos with Santa provided by CVS Photography Department will also be available.
