  • Roof work to begin at TCHS

    TELL CITY - Work scheduled to begin this week will replace a roof on the 1928 portion of Tell City High School that has suffered "some penetrations" maintenance director Kenny Kleeman attributed to the ventilation system.

    Insulated Roofing Contractors of Louisville, Ky., will replace the 13- to 14-year-old roof for $37,897, said Schools Superintendent Ron Etienne. "We'll have a good roof with a 10-year warranty."

    The money was available in the corporation's capital-improvement budget, he said.

  • Council questions chief on fuel costs

    Kellems says officers cut driving in half

    CANNELTON - Cannelton Police Chief Kenny Kellems fielded questions about his department's gas consumption at a June 9 common-council meeting.

    "Fuel (costs are) near and dear to me," he said. "I'm on my guys all the time."

    He added the price of a gallon of gas is projected to hit $4.50 by July.

  • Airport awarded $457,000 federal grant

    FAA funds will be used to construct perimeter fence

    PERRY COUNTY - A $456,950 Federal Aviation Administration grant to the Perry County Airport Authority will allow a new wildlife fence to be placed around the county's municipal airport.

    The U.S. Department of Transportation announced FAA grants to Perry County's airport and 16 others across the state last week.

    The new fence will prevent wildlife such as deer and turkeys from entering airport property, where they could pose a danger to taxiing aircraft and planes landing or taking off.

  • Red Cross hosting two blood drives

    TELL CITY - The American Red Cross will host blood drives this month, allowing donors to give the gift of life.

    A drive from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday will be held at Perry County Memorial Hospital. A June 30 event at Wal-Mart is scheduled for 3 to 7 p.m.

  • Franzman still undefeated

    TELL CITY - Franzman Insurance won two games to retain a perfect season thus far in Tell City Babe Ruth League. The team defeated Marksmen Cab 18-6 June 3 and scored two runs in the seventh inning to defeat Thomas Glass, 7-3, June 4.

    In the game against Marksmen Cab, Trent Benningfield's homer helped Franzman explode in the fourth inning with nine runs. Nathan Wood had a hit in the same inning and Lucas Bryant had a single in the first and fifth innings and a double in the second.

  • Swimmers make splash with six top-five finishes

    JASPER - Four of seven Tell City Swim Club members made top five finishes during Saturday and Sunday's Jasper Summer Invitational.

    Member Bailey Malone earned 14 points for her fifth place finish in the 200 meter individual medially in the age 13-14 group. In the age 15 50-meter freestyle race, Chelsea Malone also earned 14 points for her fifth-place win at Jasper Municipal Pool.

    Emily Sprinkle earned a total of 28 points for her two fifth place finishes, one for the age 9-10 100 meter fly and the other for the 50 meter back stroke.

  • HG&H gets first victory

    Coca-Cola drops Monday game in girls softball

    TELL CITY - Huber, Goffinet & Hagedorn Law Office had only four hits but took advantage of nine walks to beat Coca-Cola in Tell City age-13-16 girls softball Monday.

    Four players each had one hit for HG&H. Amanda Wagner hit a double for the team's only extra-base hit.

    Wagner also pitched all four innings for the win, walking only three and striking out two.

    Leslie Poole hit a single and a double for Coke and Cassidy Barnhill and Charissa Schaad each also had two hits.

  • Tell City's comeback falls short

    Forest Park picks up pair of Diamond League wins Tuesday

    TELL CITY - Tell City came close to winning the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against Forest Park but the Marksmen fell a run short, falling 10-9 to the visitors from Dubois County.

    Tell City lost the first game 4-2.
