  • Benham, Wolfpack slug Bulldogs

    CANNELTON - Bo Benham hit for the cycle as Crawford County beat Cannelton 11-0 in baseball Wednesday.

    The Wolfpack's Richard Edwards pitched a one-hitter, striking out 10 and walking two.

    Justin Dooley led off the bottom of the fifth inning for Cannelton with a double.

    But a strikeout, a ground out and a strikeout followed, stranding him at second and ending the game by the 10-run rule.

    Ethan Herzog pitched the first three innings for Cannelton to take the loss and Tyler Aud pitched the last two innings. They each struck out two and walked none.

  • Eagles, Trojans defeat PC

    LEOPOLD - Lanesville scored 10 runs in the fourth inning to beat Perry Central 15-8 in baseball Wednesday.

    The Eagles had seven hits, drew four walks and took advantage of one Perry Central error (the Commo-dores' only error of the game) in that big inning.

    The last seven runs of the inning were unearned because of the error.

    The Eagles outhit Perry Central 18-11 for the game, getting four doubles. "They were aggressive at the plate," said Perry Central Coach Ty Guillaume.

  • Courthouse open Saturday for absentee voting

    TELL CITY - The county courthouse will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday for absentee balloting. Normal weekday absentee-balloting hours are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

    Balloting continues until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

    Absentee balloting ends at noon Monday, May 5. For more information on voting issues, call 547-3741.

  • Mission group working at Pizza Inn Sunday

    TELL CITY - The Tell City Mission Group will be busing tables, serving beverages and doing dishes from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Pizza Inn in Tell City. The group is raising money to for a mission trip to New Orleans.

  • Knights' Tootsie Roll drive coming Friday and Saturday

    TELL CITY - Tell City Knights of Columbus' annual Tootsie Roll drive for special-needs residents is scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

    Local Knights will accept donations Friday and Saturday at four locations: Tell City Wal-Mart, McDonald's, Noble's IGA and Old National Bank's branch on Indiana 66.

    All money raised stays in Perry County.

  • Free fishing derby for kids returning May 31

    TELL CITY - The Hoosier National Forest is sponsoring the 13th annual Kid's Fishing Derby at the Rainbow Pay Lake near Derby Saturday, May 31.

    The event is free and is be open to all children ages 15 and under.

    Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Sign-in and registration begins at 8 a.m. and the fishing and casting contests begin at 8:45.

    There will be two fishing heats, from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. and 10 to 11 a.m. Lunch will be provided, followed by awards and prizes.

  • Teen Car Show returns

    TELL CITY - The second annual Teen Car Show returns this spring with a new location. The event begins at 1 p.m. May 10 in the 600 block of Main Street in Tell City and more than $500 in prizes will be awarded.

    Registration begins at noon for teens entering in these categories: best sound system, most miles, best dent, best school spirit, best junk in the trunk, best paint job, best wheels, antique (meaning the car is older than the teenager), the dirtiest and the coolest.

  • City leaders consider loan rules

    Councilman wants tighter controls

    CANNELTON - Cannelton needs to implement rules for people borrowing city money to start or boost their businesses, Councilman Adam Goffinet suggested at a March 10 meeting of the city council. The issue arose again at an April 14 meeting.

    "Adam presented this some time ago," city attorney Chris Goffinet said. "We don't have guidelines (specifying) under what rules do we loan money, when do we expect it to be repaid and so on."

  • State highways to be designated bike routes

    Roads offer safe, scenic ride from Tell City to French Lick

    PERRY COUNTY - Indiana highways 37 and 145 have been approved as a bicyclists' route from Tell City to French Lick, Bob Ramsbottom reported at a county council meeting Thursday.

    The county councilman is also on the Indiana Bicycle Coalition Board of Directors, he said in explaining that he asked state Rep. Russ Stilwell for the roads' designation.

    "We're trying to provide safe bicycle routes," Ramsbottom said, explaining the two highways are safe because of their wide shoulders.
