  • Tell City boys tie Boonville

    BOONVILLE - Kyle Kessinger and Zach Avallone each won four events to lead Tell City to a 66-66 tie with Boonville in boys track Thursday.

    Kessinger won the 100-meter dash in 11.48 seconds, the 200 in 23.30, and the 400 in 52.9.

    He teamed with Avallone, Dalton Sweeney and Spencer Sandage to win the 1600 relay.

    Avallone also won the long jump at 18 feet, 11 inches and both hurdles races.

    He ran the 110 high hurdles in 16.15 and the 300 intermediate hurdles in 40.92.

    Sandage won two other races for the Marksmen, running the 800 in 2:11 and the 1600 in 4:57.

  • Davis leads TC past Boonville

    BOONVILLE - Tiffany Davis won two individual events and two relays to lead Tell City past Boonville 73-55 in girls track Thursday.

    Davis won the 1600-meter run in 5:58 and the 800 in 2:42.

    She teamed with Marianne Krueger, Andyn Rowe and Sidney Strobel to win the 3200 relay in 10:47.

    Davis, Strobel, Krueger and Elizabeth Kohnert won the 1600 relay in 4:33.

    Kohnert also won two field events, clearing 5 feet, 1 inch in the high jump and going 14 feet, 7 inches in the long jump.

  • Deadline nears for filing personal-property forms

    CANNELTON - The Troy Township Assessor's Office reminds residents of approaching deadlines for filing personal-property forms. These include:

    Form101, Individual Personal Property Return. This form covers all vehicles on which excise taxes are not paid.

    Form 102, Farmers Tangible Personal Property Return. Form covers farm equipment.

    Form 103, Business Tangible Personal Property Return. Form covers business equipment.

    Forms should be returned to the Troy Township Assessor's Office, Courthouse Annex, Cannelton IN 47520 by May 15.

  • Knights on a Mission

    A steady stream of customers entering the McDonald's drive through kept Dennis Litherland, a member of Tell City Knights of Columbus Council 1172, busy Friday morning. Litherland and his fellow Knights sponsored their annual Tootsie Roll fundraiser for special-needs programs in the county, accepting bills and loose change and offering Tootsie Rolls in exchange for the generosity. "They gave me the hot spot today," Litherland said of his two-hour shift. Knights collected money locations Friday and Saturday.

  • Rural electric cooperative will undergo name change

    TELL CITY - Mike Hammack, chief executive officer of Southern Indiana Rural Electric Cooperative, recently announced the co-op will change its name June 20. The organization's new name will be Southern Indiana Power.

    "Our name does not portray how we have evolved into more than an electric provider. We often receive phone calls from people thinking we're Southern Indiana Recreation," Hammack said.

  • Sewer project eyed to reduce TC flooding

    TELL CITY - City leaders may invest up to $500,000 to increase the flow of stormwater that continues to back up into some residents' basements during periods of heavy rain.

    The city's board of works agreed last month to explore the feasibility of constructing a new pumping station and installing a 16-inch main that would help divert stormwater and sewage west toward the city's downtown, where it would be treated at the community's sewage-treatment plant.

  • Councilman balks at medical bill

    Sheriff said it, two others should have been paid last year

    TELL CITY - "Why do we have to pay that bill?" Councilman Alan Cassidy asked of $2,748 additional appropriation on the agenda for the April 24 regular meeting of the Perry County Council. "Did we authorize or order all of those tests to be done for the sheriff's department?"

In addition to pulling weeds from a flowerbed at the 4-H Fairgrounds, they painted a conference room and cleaned up the concession stand at the site.

  • Whitcomb Highway dedication honors former governor's service to Hoosiers

    ROME - Perry County resident and Hoosier statesman Edgar Whitcomb was honored Wednesday for a lifetime of public service that reached from wartime Philippines to the desk of Indiana's governor.

    Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman led a delegation of state leaders to Rome, Whitcomb's adopted hometown, to rename a portion of U.S. 50 in Jackson and Jennings counties as the Gov. Edgar D. Whitcomb Highway.

  • City, recycling district clean illegal dumps

    Mayor: One site had years of accumulation

    TELL CITY - The director of the Perry County Recycling Management District said he doesn't want to get into "wholesale" cleanups of illegal dumps, but said he was glad to help get some of them cleaned up.

    "The city had a real battle the last week-and-a-half" dealing with illegal dumping, Tell City Mayor and district board of directors member Barbara Ewing said at a meeting Wednesday.
