  • Voters asked to donate food items when casting ballots

    PERRY COUNTY – This year, when you head out to the courthouse to vote early, remember to take a canned food donation to help restock local pantry shelves.  

    The Perry County Food Coalition Food Drive is conducting its annual food drive during the month of October at the Perry County Courthouse and at all the local polling locations on Election Day.  

  • Big Brothers-Big Sisters partnering with Chicago’s Pizza

    TELL CITY – Chicago’s Pizza in Tell City has partnered with Big Brothers-Big Sisters of the Ohio Valley for a fundraiser Oct. 4-10.

    The store will make a donation to the organization for large pizzas sold during that time.

    Coupons are required and can be picked up at The News or Chicago’s Pizza.

  • Water group eyes two areas of expansion; sets public meeting

    PERRY COUNTY – The Troy Township Water Association Inc. is looking into the prospect of extending waterlines in two areas.

    Areas proposed for expansion are along Indiana 66 to River Forest and along Indiana 66 to Goosetown Road. Anyone living in the two areas interested in city water need to send a letter of intent to the Troy Township Water Association, P.O. Box 125, Cannelton, IN 47520.

  • Site shows who’s on ballot

    INDIANAPOLIS – An online tool provides information for the November general election.

    “Who’s On Your Ballot,” found at www.IndianaVoters.com, allows voters to view a complete list of candidates and questions to appear on their ballots.  

    The feature was first available to voters for the May 2010 primary election, and Hoosiers made 33,633 visits to the site.

  • Nominations open for 2010 Evelyn R. Adams Philanthropist Award

    PERRY COUNTY – The Perry County Community Foundation is accepting nominations for the 2010 Evelyn R. Adams Lifetime Philanthropist Award.

    A committee formed from the Perry County Power of Youth Council will select choose the recipient from the nominations. The 2010 Evelyn R. Adams Lifetime Philanthropist Award will be presented to the recipient at the December 3rd Grant Award Luncheon.     PERRY COUNTY – Tell City-Troy Township and Perry Central marching bands finished in fourth and fifth places, respectively, in Class A competition Saturday at the Evansville North Invitational, and are readying their shows for district-level competition.

    TELL CITY – Brennan Fenwick is a normal, healthy 10-month-old baby. He laughs loudly to the amusement of family members as he is lifted in the air by his father. He is easily distracted by shiny objects dangled by his grandmother, grins at his grandfather’s goofy faces and clings to his mother when tired. Brennan rolls on the floor with his toys and tends to pull his socks off when they apparently bother him.

  • Arrests made in ATV thefts

    ROCKY POINT – The Perry County Sheriff’s Department has solved a rash of recent ATV thefts and deputies working the investigation said the pending charges against three men might also clear up cases going back several months.

    Barry B. Nugent II, 22, of 39 Ridgewood Drive, Tell City and Rickey L. Lindauer, 27, of 217 N. Fifth St., Cannelton were arrested Sept. 24 and face multiple counts of theft and criminal trespass.
