Marksmen play 'our best night,' coach says

TELL CITY - "I thought we made many fundamental errors in the first game, a lot of basic mistakes," Jasper Coach Andy Noblitt said after a Diamond League Baseball double-header at Tell City Tuesday. "We did not do that the second game. I thought we played much better fundamentally, doing what we normally do, and the kids were able to salvage Game 2."

Tell City topped Jasper 8-3 in Game 1, then lost to Noblitt's team 6-5.

TELL CITY - In personnel actions, the Tell City-Troy Township School Board learned at their regular meeting June 10 of the resignations of part-time junior-high cook Rebecca Daum, Marty Brewer and Chris Hollinden as co-chairs on Tell City Junior High's Indiana Student Achievement Institute Committee, and Shannon Kleeman as William Tell Elementary School program assistant.

Dora Stinogel was approved to replace Daum and Michelle Newby will replace Kleeman.

TELL CITY - Feed those in need. That's how Brother Tom Brown wanted to help not only Perry County but surrounding areas.

The pastor of Tell Street Baptist Church for more than 10 years remembers searching for a creative ministry to help the community. He settled on a food pantry. "It had been his wish to start this," said Jack Garvin. "He brought it before the church in 2003 to begin feeding the needy."

TELL CITY - Interest in the opening-day parade helping to kick off Tell City's sesquicentennial is growing, with dozens of entries already received.

Members of Tell City Moose Lodge 1424, the group organizing the Aug. 2 parade, hope to secure at least 150 entries, one for each year since the community's founding in 1858.

The parade begins at 2:30 p.m. and will be followed by opening ceremonies for the week-long sesquicentennial.
