  • Man captured after chase

    TELL CITY - An early-morning chase Monday resulted in the capture of what Tell City's police chief suspects is a homeless man last seen in the Troy area.

    Jeff Schneider, 306 16th St., called police after discovering a man in a car on his property, Chief Greg Hendershot said Monday.

    "When Jeff approached him, he ran," he explained.

  • Foreclosure pain hits home

    My colleagues in Congress and I spent a majority of last week working on, debating and passing bills focused on stabilizing the housing market and strengthening our economy. The faltering housing market has affected all aspects of our economic state. Folks only need to drive around their neighborhoods or down the street to see its devastating effects.   • Graduation brings changes for seniors

    As each Perry County senior receives their diploma this week and next, changes are going to happen. No longer are you high-school students confined to an 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. schedule, a structured life of clubs, sports, school work and other obligations tied to school.

    Now is the time to really use what you've learned in those walls to make your decisions count even more than what they have. Experience new things. Go out, do things you never would have thought about doing.

  • PC falls to Rangers

    FERDINAND - Forest Park broke up Perry Central's shutout bid with three runs in the fifth inning and beat the Commodores 6-1 in baseball Friday.

    Perry Central pitcher Wes Linette cruised through the first four innings. But in the fifth the Rangers first three batters singled.

    A bases-loaded walk to the Rangers' cleanup hitter then tied the score 1-1.

    The next batter singled in two runs to put the Rangers ahead for good.

    The Rangers outhit Perry Central 9-6 for the game.

    Lucas Bryant went 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead Perry Central hitters.

  • PC holds off Springs Valley

    FRENCH LICK - Perry Central played "the best defense we've played all year" in a 7-6 PLAC girls softball win over Springs Valley Wednesday, said Coach Greg Gibson.

    The Commodores committed only one error and made several nice catches.

    Morgan Gibson and Hilarie Hahus each had two of Perry Central's seven hits.

    Hahus drove in two runs and Cassy Schaad and April Ransom each scored two.

    Abby Preher pitched a complete game for the win, walking five and striking out three.

  • Marian signs Gehlhausen

    LEOPOLD - Perry Central senior Audra Gehlhausen has signed a national letter of intent to run track and cross country for Marian College.

    Gehlhausen, who was also recruited by Manchester, said she chose the Indianapolis school because "I liked their coaches better and I liked the girls on the team."

    Dave Roberts, Marian's track and cross country coach, said, "I think she has a real good chance to run in our top five (in cross country) as a freshman."

  • Ress pitches, hits TC past Jeeps 5-0

    DUBOIS - Josalyn Ress pitched a two-hitter as Tell City shut out Northeast Dubois 5-0 in girls softball Friday.

    Ress struck out six and walked none, and her teammates backed her with errorless defense.

    She also went 3 for 3 with a double to lead Tell City's nine-hit attack.

    Tell City batters struck out four times - their fourth consecutive game with four or fewer strikeouts.

    "We do put the ball in play - that's one of our strengths," said Tell City Coach Dusty Beard.

  • Marksmen should like their draw for baseball sectional

    Drawing the first-round bye in next week's Class 2A South Spencer baseball sectional should make Tell City's team happy.

    But perhaps an even bigger plus for the Marksmen was they did not draw one of their three fellow PAC teams in the sectional.

    Going into Friday's game at Floyd Central, the Marksmen were 1-6 against PAC opponents (counting a second loss to South Spencer, which did not count in conference standings) and 9-1 against teams outside the PAC.

  • Pfeifer breaks jaw in 6-5 Tell City loss

    FLOYDS KNOBS - Despite outhitting Floyd Central 12-5, Tell City lost a baseball game and possibly a key player Friday.

    Floyd Central won 6-5, taking advantage of three Tell City errors, four walks, and a close call at first base that went against Tell City to end the game with the tying run on third base.

    But of more concern to the Marksmen was Cody Pfeifer's getting hit in the face by a pitch and breaking his jaw in the seventh inning.

    "He's going into surgery tomorrow (Saturday) morning," said Tell City Coach Phil DeSpain.
