    Perry Central superintendent pinch-hits for commencement speaker

    EVANSVILLE - Twenty-one Perry and Spencer County residents were among more than 600 students whose efforts toward associate degrees were capped Saturday by an Ivy Tech Community College commencement ceremony in Evansville.

    Perry Central Community School Superintendent Mary Roberson provided the commencement address in lieu of scheduled speaker Douglas Bawel, president of Jasper Engines and Transmissions, who was unable to attend due to a family medical emergency.

    Mayor notes city hasn't progressed in 12 years

    CANNELTON - People have asked Cannelton Councilwoman Lynn Fulkerson if money pledged to the Perry County Development Corp., could be put to better use in developing the city, she said during a regular council meeting Monday.

    She also questioned the city's having to pay the full cost of joining the economic-development organization, even though it's happening midway through the year.

    Patrick Hagedorn accused of crashing truck into father's home; shotgun seized

    TELL CITY - A 27-year-old man faces two counts of attempted murder after allegedly crashing a pickup truck into his father's home Sunday night and brandishing a loaded shotgun at him.

    Patrick C. Hagedorn, 27, of 123 14th St., Tell City, is charged with trying to kill his father, Tell City attorney Michael Hagedorn.

    Perry County's fourth-graders received quite an education Wednesday while taking part in the annual Old-Fashioned Day at the county fairgrounds.

    Several groups, including Purdue University's extension services in the county and Lincoln Hills Resource Conservation and Development Area help organize volunteers for a day of hands-on learning on what life in the past was like.

    Perry County's response to animal-abandonment, -neglect and -cruelty problems, woefully inadequate not too long ago, has been developed over recent years into what can be described as a solid foundation. We have a state-of-the-art shelter, an animal-control-officer position and regulations he or she can cite in doing the job.

  • Rain forces postponements

    Most sports events involving Perry County teams Wednesday through Friday were postponed because of rain.

    Tell City's boys golf match at Boonville Wednesday was rained out and had not been rescheduled at press time.

    Tell City's girls tennis match at Tecumseh was rained out Thursday and Friday, the second and third times it has been postponed.

    It has been rescheduled for today at 4:30 p.m.

    Tell City's PAC baseball game at Southridge Thursday and at home against Heritage Hills Friday were also postponed.
