  • Kaffee Klatch, talent show return in August

    TELL CITY - The annual Kaffee Klatch sponsored by Epsilon Omega Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa will offer breakfast and brunch favorites 7:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Evangelical United Church of Christ's Fellowship Hall.

    Tickets are $4.50 in advance or $5 at the door. The public is invited. Tickets are available at Old National Bank, Fifth Third Bank and First State Bank's Rivergate branch. Tri Kappa members are also selling tickets.

  • Tickets still available for Friday afternoon river cruise

    TELL CITY - Looking for a quick getaway during this year's sesquicentennial and Schweizer Fest? Look no further than the Ohio River and the Spirit of Jefferson. A number of tickets for the 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 8 cruise aboard the passenger boat are available for $25 each.

    The cruise includes hors d'oeuvres, live music and a raffle for a cruise on the Belle of Louisville.

  • German band to entertain in wine garden

    A community known for its love of beer will welcome some of the state's top wineries Saturday, Aug. 9, for an afternoon of tastings in City Hall Park.

    Making a sesquicentennial visit the same day will be an Indiana band well known for its Bavarian tunes. Several wineries, including Winzerwald in Perry County, will be pouring tastes and selling wines to take home in a wine garden located in the park from noon to 6 p.m.

  • Musik Halle bustling with Schweizer entertainment

    TELL CITY - Schweizer Fest's Musik Halle in City Hall Park will again be filled with a wide variety of entertainment this year, and much of it will be featured under a new gazebo in City Hall Park.

    Wednesday night's activities will begin at 5:45 p.m. with a ceremony designating Tell City as a Clean Community by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

  • Fest to honor eldest, newest Tell City citizens

    TELL CITY - The Tell City Sesquicentennial Committee is looking for the oldest male and female residents of Tell City in hopes of honoring them at the upcoming sesquicentennial.

    A handful of nominations have been received, but the committee suspects names of the eldest citizens have yet to be raised. Nominations are needed soon as the fest starts Saturday.

    To nominate someone for the oldest citizen, send the person's name, address, date of birth and telephone number to P.O. Box 728, Tell City, IN 47586.

    TELL CITY - A final round of a Kangaroo Court fugitive hunt begins today with clues offered for two rascals.

    Clue 1: I graduated high school in 1967 and love my three grandchildren.

    Clue 2: I have lived in Tell City for more than half of my life.

    Clue 3: I have been married for 38 years and enjoy gardening.

    Clue 1: I have been a Perry County resident all my life.

    Clue 2: I grew up on a farm.

  • Historical treasure hunt continues

    TELL CITY - Three more clues should help treasure hunters narrow their search for a wooden token hidden as part of an ongoing hunt for history sponsored by the Tell City Sesquicentennial Committee.

    Last Thursday's clues didn't yield a winner. Whoever finds the token will win gift certificates from Hauenstein's, Ponderosa and Julie's Tell Street Cafe.

    Treasure hunters can find the answer to the clues in the Tell City-Perry County Public Library, Tell City Historical Society, the Tell City pictorial history book or by talking with senior or history-minded citizens.

  • Bands to Rock City Hall Park; new gazebo ready for '08 fest

    TELL CITY - The celebration of Tell City's sesquicentennial will add an extra night of band music to the normal Schweizer Fest lineup this year.

    Shortly after the 6 p.m. opening ceremonies Saturday, the ever-popular Evansville-based 1950s and 60s rock 'n' roll show band The Duke Boys will perform under a new gazebo in City Hall Park.

  • 1776 curtain rises today

    TELL CITY - After a year's absence, Schweizer Fest Inc. is again offering theatrical entertainment to Tell City. In honor of the historical significance of the city's sesquicentennial, this year's production is 1776, the story of our founding fathers' efforts in the Continental Congress, set to a musical theme.

    This year's presentations will take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. A Sunday matinee begins at 2 p.m. All performances will take place at the Tell City High School Auditorium

  • Commodores start band camp

    Season offers original music, new assistant director

    LEOPOLD - Perry Central marching-band students went to work Monday on an all-original show written in part by a new assistant band director, according to Director Rob Cason.

    He said Monday afternoon, the first day of this year's band camp, he was pleased with students' efforts.

    "I was really happy with the day," he said. "We're in a better spot than we were in at this time last year."
