  • Rowe plays for World Series champs

    LANSING, Mich.-C.J. Rowe of Tell City played for the Southern Indiana Spikes baseball team that won the age-13-and-under Baseball Players Association World Series July 21-25.

    Rowe, a pitcher and catcher, also placed seventh in the catchers’ accuracy throwing competition at the 33-team tourney.

    The Spikes went 7-0 in the tourney, beating every opponent by at least seven runs. They beat East Cobb Lightning, the Georgia state champion, 10-1 in the championship game.

  • Huber named academic All-American

    ITHACA, N.Y.--Perry Central graduate Nick Huber, who is entering his junior year at Cornell University, has been named to the national all-academic team for NCAA Division I track and field.

    He compiled a 3.5 grade-point average last semester and qualified for the NCAA national meet in the 400-meter hurdles.

  • Festival full of competition

    TELL CITY - Another Schweizer Fest means another week packed with sports for Tell Citians.

    This year's list of events will feature all of the usual competitions, including the Road Run, which has easily become the festival's most popular event and is still looking to grow.

    After drawing 466 runners during last year's race, Road Run organizers are expecting to eclipse the 500 mark at Saturday's race for the first time in event history.

  • TC youth sign up for football

    TELL CITY - Tell City will hold youth football leagues for players in second through sixth grade this fall.

    Registration fee is $50 for players in grades 5 and 6, who will play tackle football, and $25 for players in grades 2-4, who will play flag football. The fee is nonrefundable. Registration will be held 9-11 a.m. Aug. 21 in William Tell Elementary's cafeteria. Registration forms are available at the Perry County News office.

  • Tell City to hold girls tourney

    TELL CITY - The Tell City Girls Softball League will sponsor the Rumble on the River fastpitch tourney for ages 8-and-under, 10-U, 12-U and 14-U at its complex on 19th Street Friday through Sunday.

    The tourneys will be machine pitch for 8-U and 10-U and ASA fastpitch rules will apply for 12-U and 14-U. There is a three-game guarantee - two pool games followed by single-elimination. Entry deadline was Monday.

    There will be no gate or parking fees.

  • TC Football Club shirt sale

    TELL CITY - The Tell City Football club will sell short and long-sleeved T-shirts and hooded and crewneck sweatshirts for the 2010 football season.

    Prices are $13 for short-sleeved T-shirts, $15 for long-sleeved T-shirts, $25 for hoodies and $18 for crewnecks. Two different designs are offered. Pre-orders are due by Thursday with second order deadline of August 19.
