  • Chamber selling tickets for 'The King and I'

    TELL CITY – The Schweizer Fest Committee has announced a new outlet for obtaining tickets for Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The King and I.”

    Tickets can be ordered from cast and crew members or purchased at the Perry County Chamber of Commerce office at 601 Main St. in Tell City. Phone orders can be placed by calling the chamber office at 547-2385.

    “The King and I” is the 22nd musical presented by the Schweizer Fest committee and is sponsored by Old National Bank. Show dates are Aug. 4, 5, 6 and 7.

  • Democrats’ July book drive will benefit Perry County libraries

    TELL CITY – The Perry County Democrat Association is conducting an annual book drive during July to benefit local libraries.

    Books can be donated through drop boxes at Noble’s IGA in Tell City and Tom’s Circle S in Cannelton.

    Mark Ramsey, an attorney who was said to own neglected Cannelton property discussed in a News report Thursday, only recently entered negotiations to purchase the home in the 4000 block of Indiana 66, he explained that day. The News quoted Mayor Smokey Graves as saying Ramsey owned the property, and it had been a problem for more than three years. “The reason I bought it was I had to drive by it every day,” Ramsey said of the foreclosed property, “and I thought, ‘this place needs to be cleaned up.’ ”

  • Arrest made in pair of burglaries

    TELL CITY – A police investigation led to the arrest Tuesday of a Tell City man for his role in a pair of burglaries.

    Tell City Patrolman Roger Smith said Steven Harrison, 38, of 806 Traphagen Court, faces two counts each of burglary and theft, as well as counts of carrying a handgun without a license, possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia and criminal mischief.

    His wife, Sammi, also faces pending charges, including conspiracy to commit burglary, Smith said.

  • Principals discuss ISTEP scores

    TELL CITY – Members of the Tell City-Troy Township School Board heard from the principals of both Tell City schools about the recent release of ISTEP scores.

    William Tell Elementary Principal Laura Noble said the elementary students’ scores were “not quite as high (as last year), but still had some bright points. We’re still very proud of the test scores we have.”

  • TC man jailed on child porn charge

    TELL CITY – A Tell City man was arrested Friday on a charge of possessing child pornography after an investigation by Tell City police officers and the Indiana State Police Crimes Against Children Unit.

    Christopher K. Taylor, 27, of 624 16th St., Tell City was lodged in the Perry County Jail, said Tell City Police Lt. Alan Malone. He and Chris Cecil, a member of the state police Crimes Against Children Unit and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force picked up an investigation launched Wednesday by Patrolman Phillip Flamion and Sgt. Lynn Wooldridge.
