  • Industrial site gains 'shovel-ready' designation

    PERRY COUNTY - A 90-acre parcel of land located just off Indiana 37 in the Perry County Industrial Park South has been awarded Indiana's Shovel Ready designation. The new status could put the tract of land at an advantage in ongoing efforts to recruit industrial development and new jobs.

    Nine sites across Indiana earned the status July 11, paving the way for businesses to quickly locate new operations on property ready for development, local leaders said.

  • Festival Programs

    Official programs for Tell City's weeklong sesquicentennial and 50th Schweizer Fest will be inserted into Thursday's News. They will be available this week at area businesses, including The News. A small number of changes to the schedule have been made since the programs were printed. Those changes will be published Thursday.

  • All-stars lose to Newburgh

    POSEYVILLE - Tell City 14-year-old Babe Ruth all-stars held their Newburgh opponents scoreless in the first inning of a district-tournament game Saturday in Poseyville, but their opponents "came back and started hitting in the second," and went on to win the game 16-6, according to Tell City Coach John Nelson.

    The loss eliminated Tell City from the tourney.

    Trent Nelson got a single in the first inning, then stole second, third and home to put Tell City up 1-0 in the first inning. Rain delayed the second inning, which saw Newburgh score nine runs.

  • Tell City 15-year-olds split games, lose championship

    JASPER - Tell City got a chance to avenge their 7-0 loss to Newburgh Sunday, only to come up short in the Monday championship game against them.

    Tell City's age-15 Babe Ruth all-stars team lost 7-3 Monday during the district tourney

    Coach Brad Stiles said the team didn't play well the first two innings and couldn't come back after Newburgh had scored.

    Trent Benningfield hit 2-for-4 and Trent Gunn hit 1-for-4 during the game. Runs were made by Benningfield, Ethan Herzog and Sean Flannagan.

  • Team earns ticket to regional despite district-tourney loss

    NEWBURGH - Even though Tell City lost the age 13 Babe Ruth All-Star Tourney, they will advance to the Southwind Regional Tourney.

    In Game 3 of the tourney, Tell City beat Newburgh 15-8, allowing them to play against the District 6 winners in the regional tourney Friday at 5:30 p.m. in Bloomington.

  • Hair Razors rallies to win 13-16 tourney

    TELL CITY - Hair Razors rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Sports Acceleration 8-7 to win Tell City's age-13-16 girls softball league playoff tourney Monday.

    Payton Reed singled home the tying runs.

    McKenzie Hayes' fielder's choice grounder to the right side then drove in the winning run from third base.

    Catelyn Zuelly hit two doubles in the game for Hair Razors.

    Jaci Garrett added a double and a single, Cortni Strobel had two singles, and Hayes hit a double.

  • Band kicks off season July 25

    TELL CITY - Families of Tell City High School Marching Marksmen members are invited to the 12th annual band-season kick-off party 5 to 10 p.m. July 25 at Mulzer's Camp.

    Activities will include games, food, introduction of the new band season, an annual tug-of-war contest and prize give-aways.

    Junior and senior members are asked to bring hot covered dishes, sophomores should bring cold covered dishes, freshmen should bring desserts and eighth-grade members are to bring chips. Each family is asked to bring a 2-liter drink. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided.

  • One fugitive nabbed; two still free

    TELL CITY - One of three Kangaroo Court fugitives was identified this week, leaving two runaways on the loose.

    Larry Hagedorn was identified as Fugitive 1 by a single clue, "I have lived in Perry County all my life, but moved to Tell City when I was a teen."

    Kathy Schneider of Tell City won when she asked Hagedorn the required question: "Are you the Tell City Kangaroo Court fugitive?"

    She wins $50 from William Tell Antiques in Tell City.

  • Attention TC treasure hunters: more clues to third-round prize

    TELL CITY - As of Wednesday, no one had found the wooden token hidden in the third round of a historical treasure hunt sponsored by the Tell City Sesquicentennial Committee.

    Fischer's Furniture and Appliance and The News are sponsoring this round's prizes, which are an Echo weed trimmer from Fischer's and a year's subscription to The Perry County News.

    The person finding the specially marked wooden token should contact Mark Laflin at 548-0778 to claim the prize.
