    Home to a church, grocery store and popular restaurant, the central Perry County community of Leopold still has its post office – and will for the foreseeable future.

  • Moose Summer Fest kicks off Friday

    TELL CITY – Moose Lodge 1424’s annual Summer Fest marking the Independence Day holiday will kick off Friday with rides, games, food and, if conditions allow, a big fireworks show Sunday night.

    Activities will swing into gear Friday at Zoercher-Bettinger Park on Tell City’s north side.

    Lodge members will serve barbecued-chicken and pork-chop dinners Friday with help from Ladies of the Moose. Serving will begin at 4 p.m.

    TELL CITY – Perry County’s commissioners granted the wishes of several people Wednesday when they tabled a request from ThyssenKrupp Waupaca Foundry to rezone property in the heart of the county to accommodate a landfill.

    TELL CITY – The Tell City High School Class of 1967 will celebrate its 45-year reunion Aug. 11 at the Hoosier Heights County Club.

  • Alvey earns law degree

    NAPLES, Fla. – Christie Alvey graduated from Ave Maria School of Law May 12 with a jurisdoctor of law degree.

    She is a 1998 graduate of Cannelton High School, a 2003 graduate of Urbana University with a bachelor’s degree in sports management and 2006 graduate of Indiana Wesleyan with a degree in physical and health education and special education.
    She is the daughter of Rose and Denny Moore of Eckerty and the late Gordon Alvey.

  • Jasper Engine announces scholarship recipients

    JASPER – Jasper Engine and Transmission has announced the winners of its annual scholarship program. Applicants must be dependent children of full-time Jasper associates. A rating system of several criteria is used to determine the recipients.

    Brad Douglas, a graduate of Perry Central High School, was a local recipient. He will attend Oakland City University to study pre-law and sports administration.
    He is the son of Daniel and Rebecca Douglas. His father is co-department manager in Jasper Engine’s differential department.
