TELL CITY - Learning a new offense and having serve reception problems contributed to Tell City's 25-16, 19-25, 25-21, 25-10 PAC volleyball loss to Gibson Southern Thursday.

"We just put in a new offense yesterday (switching from a 5-1 to a 6-2) and I felt like that was a learning experience again," said Tell City Coach Dalonda Hayes.

Paige Gelarden, who became the second setter in the new offense, had eight assists and original setter Julie Davis had 11. And the Marksmen "had more attacks than we'd had in the last two games," said Hayes.

It looked as if this would be a banner year for Perry County athletes at Indiana State University, with at least one of them competing for the Sycamores in every season.

Perry Central graduate Aaron Carter will be a sophomore guard for the Sycamores' men's basketball team this winter. And Tell City graduate Kyle Kessinger has joined the Sycamores' track team as a sprinter.

Track's main season is the spring, though college tracksters also compete in a shorter indoor season in the winter.

TELL CITY - The Tell City Water Department has taken delivery of a new truck.

The city's water board voted this summer to approve utility superintendent Dale Poole's request to purchase a new 2007 Kodiak 7500 from Uebelhor Chevrolet in Jasper. The truck carried a price tag of $48,175 and was the was the lowest of four new-vehicle quotes tendered.

The vehicle replaces a 1986 truck with "22 years of hard use," that the water utility inherited from the street department, Poole said.
