  • Ball State announces dean’s list, fall graduates

    MUNCIE – Ball State University has announced the names of students who graduated and were included on the dean’s list during the fall 2011 semester.
    Spencer County dean’s list honorees were Andrew Hagan and Rachel Purviance of Grandview and Carla Cotton, Laura Hutchinson and Brandon Roos of Rockport.
    From Perry County, dean’s list honorees were Kellie Suttle of Leopold, Kristin Truelove of St. Croix and Katelyn Bryant of Tell City.
    Ball State graduates included Gina Anderson of Tell City, who earned a master’s degree.

  • PCMH to offer CPR, first aid classes

    TELL CITY – A family and friends CPR class is set for 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The program is designed for the layperson, 10 years and older, to learn CPR and choking-rescue skills. No testing or performance evaluation will be required during this course. The fee is $10 per person.
    A Heartsaver CPR with AED class is also scheduled for Wednesday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. The fee for this certification class is $45. A skills test is required. The class will be held again from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 14.

  • DNR offers online ATV safety course

    INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department Natural Resources law-enforcement and outdoor-recreation divisions are partnering to offer an online all-terrain-vehicle-safety course.

    ATVs and other off-road vehicles have increased in popularity over the past decade, but so have accidents. Indiana conservation officer Maj. Michael Portteus recently reported that ATV accidents have increased 40 percent over the past four years, from 153 in 2008 to 214 last year.

  • WTE sixth-graders earn science-bowl honors

    Students on the William Tell science-bowl team placed seventh in their class in the state.

  • Simpson - Mhapsekar

    Laura Elizabeth Simpson, formerly of Tell City, and Rishi Santosh Mhapsekar were united in marriage during an afternoon ceremony Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Tell City.

    The bride is the daughter of William and Connie Simpson of Tell City, and the granddaughter of Lee Simpson of Tell City. The groom is the son of Santosh and Sunethra Mhapsekar of Tustin, Calif.
    The bride was given away in marriage by her father in the double-ring ceremony officiated by the Rev. Thomas Richstatter OFM.

  • Glory Bees enrollment open for 2012-13

    TELL CITY – Glory Bees Preschool, a ministry of the First Baptist Church of Tell City since 1986, is accepting applications for the 2012-13 school year. 
    The preschool provides a Christian educational experience through Bible stories, songs and Christian character building. The curriculum incorporates kindergarten readiness skills, social and communication skills, community field trips, guest readers, community guests and a reading-incentive book club.

  • Wheatley earns second degree from IUPUI

    INDIANAPOLIS – Chelsea Wheatley, daughter of Joe Voges and Angela Wheatley, graduated with her second degree from Indiana University School of Nursing at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Dec. 17 with a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
    She is a previous graduate of Indiana University Bloomington. She will be employed as a registered nurse in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at Riley’s Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
    She is the granddaughter of Hubert and Mary Jo Voges and the late Leonard and Regina Wheatley.

  • Help plan Tell City’s future

    TELL CITY – The public is encouraged to help shape what Tell City will look like 20, 30 and even 40 years from now by taking part in an information-gathering session for the city’s new comprehensive plan.

    The session from 2 to 4 p.m. March 9 will be held at the Schergens Center and will gauge the community’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

  • Drug charges filed against three people

    TELL CITY – Three people were arrested on drug charges in the past two weeks after separate investigations.

    Donald R. James, 54, of 904 Lauer Lane, Tell City, was arrested Feb. 11 on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of illegal drug paraphernalia.

    Tell City Patrolman Derrick Lawalin said officers received information and secured a search warrant for the home. Officers allegedly found several bags of methamphetamine, a small quantity of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
