  • TC All-Stars finish second in North Harrison tourney

    RAMSEY - Seven players out of an 11-player roster hit above .300 for the weekend as the Tell City 12-year-old all-star team finished second in a seven-team tourney at North Harrison. They finished the tourney 5 and 2.

    Austin Paulin hit .500 and Drew Mowery .478 to lead Tell City. Others hitting above .300 for the tourney were Trent Zuelly .350, Reese Miller, Derrick Snyder and Rhett Baumeister .333 and Dakota Braunecker .300.

  • Bodies of two missing boaters recovered

    Pair of boats pulled under by fast-moving water below dam

    CANNELTON - Indiana conservation officers Tuesday recovered the bodies of two men missing since their fishing boats were pulled under water Monday morning near the Cannelton Locks and Dam.

    Ricky D. Wiseman, 47, of Troy was located at 2:17 p.m. Tuesday less than 400 yards downstream from Gate No. 5 at the dam, Indiana conservation officers said. The body of Barton Zimmerman, 49, of Corydon was found about two hours later.

  • Police plan sobriety checkpoint

    PERRY COUNTY - Troopers from the Indiana State Police Jasper Post will conduct a sobriety checkpoint at an undisclosed location in Perry County Friday. Drivers passing through the checkpoint area should have their licenses and registrations ready to present to troopers and will only be detained briefly while troopers determine whether further investigation is necessary.

  • Country line dancing, teen garden return

    TELL CITY - Whether you're content to sit and listen, or prefer to join in the fun, country line dancing will again take place on Friday and Saturday evenings at Schweizer Fest on Main Street in front of First State Bank.

    On Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mary Lynn and Larry's Country Line Dancers will take to the street for plenty of fun and exercise.

    On Saturday from 6 to 7 p.m., Jesse and Cheryl Clem from the Covered Wagon in Cannelton will provide the music and dancers for anyone wanting to kick up their heels.

  • Time capsule submissions due Aug. 13

    TELL CITY - Submissions to sesquicentennial time capsules to be sealed and buried this month are due by Wednesday, Aug. 13. The two concrete vaults being used as time capsules aren't large, but there is still some room for letters and photos.

    "We've got a great selection of items about Tell City but a little space remains," News Editor Vince Luecke said. The only items being accepted are letters and photographs that can be bundled together tightly.

    "It's going to take some creative packing but we're going to place as much as we can inside," Luecke said.

  • Wooden token located

    Series of history-based hunts concludes

    TELL CITY - John Oberhausen located the final wooden token hidden in a historical treasure hunt sponsored by the Tell City Sesquicentennial Committee. He won an Echo Power Blower with a Power Shield attachment from Fischer's Furniture and Appliance.

    He also wins a Kathy Van Zeeland purse from Celebrations in Tell City.

    The token was taped to the back of a light pole along Humboldt Street by the current post office. The Tell City Planing Mill known as Kreisle Manufacturing Co. was located there.

  • Top gospel-music acts in park Saturday

    TELL CITY - Saturday is Gospel Day in Musik Halle, with several groups performing in City Hall Park as part of this year's Schweizer Fest.

    With the increasing popularity of the Saturday gospel music over the past few years, this year's gospel program has been expanded to include more groups, and some well-known regional names in this year's lineup.

    A performance by vacation Bible school students from several Perry County churches begins at 1 p.m.

  • Final fugitive in custody

    TELL CITY - Lee Brown was identified as the final fugitive who absconded from Tell City's Kangaroo Court. He was identified by Larry Kleeman. The contest, designed to build interest in the celebration under way this week, was sponsored by William Tell Antiques and Collectibles.
