  • Goffinet receives KWC awards

    OWENSBORO, Ky. — Tell City graduate Lauren Goffinet was named to the Great Lakes Valley Conference All-Academic Team for the 2012-13 year, the fourth year in a row that she made it.

    Goffinet, a May graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College where she starred in women’s basketball, was one of a record 53 Wesleyan student-athletes to earn the honor this year.

    She was one of only two to do so for the fourth time, joining volleyball player Sarah Pedigo from Trimble County, Ky.

  • Spinner resigns as TC’s coach

    TELL CITY — Angie Spinner has resigned as Tell City’s boys and girls varsity swim coach, saying she cannot do that job well while devoting time to getting her master’s degree.

    Spinner, who came to Tell City last fall, plans to remain as a special education teacher at William Tell Elementary and said, “In order to keep my job I have to get a master’s degree in moderate to several special education.”

  • Indiana 66 closed in Troy this week for rail repairs


    TROY – The Indiana Department of Transportation has closed Indiana 66 in Troy to repair a railroad crossing. The closing took effect Monday and all work is scheduled to be complete by 2 p.m. Friday.

    The official detour will route traffic on Indiana 545, Indiana 62, Indiana 162 and Indiana 70.

  • Cannelton Police Dept. looking for theft suspect


    CANNELTON – The Cannelton Police Department is investigating a theft from a local business and is requesting the public’s help in identifying the suspect or suspects.

    Officers were called to Tom’s Circle S, located in the 200 Block of S. Seventh Street Friday at approximately 8:05 p.m. The clerk at the store said a black male, approximately 5-feet, 10-inches tall wearing a black T-shirt and a dark colored baseball cap entered the store.

  • Perry Central band meeting, picnic July 31

    LEOPOLD – The Perry Central Marching Band will host a mandatory meeting and picnic July 31.
    The picnic will immediately follow Band Camp at 4 p.m. that day. Hot dogs and drinks will be provided.  Those attending may take a side dish or snacks. The mandatory meeting will start at 4:30 p.m. The group will discuss band camp fees and concessions, meet the band director, learn about the boosters and discuss the calendar for the year.  
    There will be a drawing for prizes. Winners must be present to claim their prize.

  • Rome Masons dinner, awards Saturday

    ROME – Rome Lodge 133 Free and Accepted Masons will hold a quarterly supper at 7 p.m. Saturday.
    This is a carry-in meal and all Masons, family and friends are invited.
    Following the meal, there will be a presentation of the Lewis Awards. This is a special award given by the Yorkrite to fathers and sons that are Masons in the same jurisdiction.  
    Rome Lodge 133 has a good percentage of members as fathers and sons, organizers said, and this should be a great evening of fellowship.

    CANNELTON – Youth Refuge will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the community room at the Cotton Mill Apartments in Cannelton.

  • Firearms courses July 13, Aug. 10

    TELL CITY – C&J Firearm Academy will host a National Rifle Association basic pistol course at 8 a.m. July 13 and Aug. 10 and will last approximately eight hours, which will include classroom and range time.
    The course will be taught by a local NRA-certified instructor and will cover the basics of safe gun handling and shooting. The course will emphasize the safe and proper use of pistols.
