  • Containing Mitchell's running game PC's goal

    MITCHELL - Stopping Mitchell's running game will be Perry Central's first goal when the two meet in PLAC football Friday at 7 p.m.

    The 1-5 Bluejackets have "had some problems with their execution," said Perry Central Coach Mike Spencer Monday. "Their running game at times looks OK, but it's not as consistent as it needs to be. They do have some quick kids, though."

    He said their best runner is their quarterback, Andrew Ritchison, a 5-foot-10, 140-pound senior, who runs frequently on option plays.

    Thomas Isom, a 6-2, 190-pound junior running back, is also quick.

  • Raiders run past Commodores

    LEOPOLD - Southridge rushed for 251 yards as it beat Perry Central 23-6 in reserve football Monday.

    "I think we were stronger, but they were quicker than us," said Perry Central Coach Ron Gibson.

    The Raiders built a 15-0 lead before Lucas Bryant scored a Perry Central touchdown on a 3-yard run with 4:00 left in the second quarter.

    The score was still 15-6 when Perry Central made a 45-yard kickoff return to start the third quarter.

    But a fumble at the end of that return gave the ball back to Southridge.

  • Perry Central boys win sectional tuneup

    JASPER - Jasper's cross country invitational is generally a preview of the sectional to be held on the same course two weeks later.

    That should be encouraging to Perry Central's boys team, which won the invitational by 48 points over runner-up Heritage Hills Tuesday.

    "The guys had a nice meet tonight," said Perry Central Coach Jason Barnett.

    Tell City finished fifth in the 10-team meet with 122 points, though the Marksmen ran without their No. 1 runner, Alex Fenn, who is expected to be back for the PAC meet and sectional.

  • PC 1st, Tell City 2nd at Bedford

    BEDFORD - Perry Central placed four boys in the top nine to win the smaller-schools division of Bedford-North Lawrence's boys cross country invitational Saturday.

    The Commodores won with 37 points.

    Tell City placed second in the 13-team race with 114 points. Heritage Hills also scored 114 but Tell City took second with a better sixth-man score.

  • Rickenbaugh House open Saturday, Sunday

    CELINA LAKE - The historic Rickenbaugh House on Celina Lake will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Due to a brochure error, a story Monday incorrectly reported the home would be open Friday and Saturday.

    Refreshments will be served and tours offered of the stone house, which served not only as a home to generations of Rickenbaugh family members but a local post office and meeting place.

  • Pioneer Days beckon in Troy as fall tour resumes

    Activities along town's riverfront begin Friday; fireworks on Saturday

    PERRY COUNTY - Sunny skies and daytime temperatures in the 70s promise to offer a definite autumn-like feel during Pioneer Days events in Troy Friday and Saturday.

    Two days of food and entertainment begin Friday with ham, beans and cornbread dinners. Serving begins at 5 p.m. and doors to the beer garden open at the same time.

    Sandwiches, cotton candy, popcorn and other snacks will be available both days, as will soft drinks.

    Spreading God's word from town to town ... at 4 mph

    Pulling tight on the reins, Randy Boehmer brings his team of four mules to a halt along Indiana 37. The traveler is glad for a chance to stop and talk and sate his hunger, he said, pulling an apple and jar of peanut butter from a covered wagon filled with belongings and two dogs, Shep and Proverb.

    As Boehmer unhooks the dogs from inside the covered wagon, he leads them to the back, past the "Jesus Saves. Ask Him" sign hung on the wagon's side.

  • River Sweep contest opens

    PERRY COUNTY - Students in primary and secondary schools are invited to design posters for River Sweep 2009. The contest is open to schools in counties bordering the Ohio River and its tributaries.

    Posters should reflect the positive outcome of pollution awareness and focus on encouraging volunteer participation. Prizes include two $500 U.S. Savings Bonds.

    Posters should be no larger than 18 by 24 inches and no smaller than 9 by 12 inches. All entries must be mailed to Poster Contest, ORSANCO, 5735 Kellogg Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45228 by Dec. 15.
