  • TC police bring end to three-county pursuit

    TELL CITY – A Spencer County man led police on a winding chase through portions of three counties Wednesday night, ramming his truck against a Ferdinand police officer’s car and dodging stop sticks before being stopped and arrested in Tell City.

    More than a dozen police vehicles from the Spencer County Sheriff’s Department, Ferdinand and Santa Claus police departments and state police took part in the pursuit, which began in Dale.

  • Family, community lay soldier to rest

    PERRY COUNTY – Scores of supporters turned out Thursday to bid farewell to fallen soldier Sgt. 1st Class Barry Jarvis.

    Even truckers who need to keep to tight schedules expressed their support when told the reason behind the long procession traveling from Tell City to Deer Creek Baptist Church.

    “I don’t mind waiting for this one,” said a woman conversing via citizens-band radio.

  • Robert and Etta Jean Conen

    Robert and Etta Jean Conen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, with a celebration held at the Patio Steakhouse and hosted by their children.
    Mr. Conen married the former Etta Jean Kieser Nov. 24, 1960, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Tell City.
    The couple have two children, Cathy Franey of Owensboro, Ky., and Bruce Conen of Newburgh. They also have four grandchildren, Patrick, Jennifer and Matthew Franey and Nash Conen.
    Mr. Conen retired from NSA 1989 and retired from farming in 1992.

  • Sitzman – Zarfos

    Rivaye Sitzman and Justin Zarfos of Derby were united in marriage during an outdoor ceremony held Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at Mulzer Park in Derby.
    The bride is the daughter of Kenny and Mona Elder of Tell City. Mr. Zarfos is the son of Zeke Zarfos of Oriole.
    The bride was given away in marriage by her step-father. Tell City Mayor Barbara Ewing officiated the double-ring ceremony.
    Kristin Fischer of Evansville was chosen as maid of honor.

  • WTE to host free, 8-week family program

    TELL CITY – William Tell Elementary will present “Making Good Families Better,” a free, eight-week program as a part of Strengthening Families.
    The program will begin Jan. 6 and be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday evenings at the school. It is for children 6 to 11 years old and their parents and caregivers. Free family dinners will be provided during the meetings.
    A homework club and child care will be provided for attendees.

  • Dance scheduled at the Sportsman Dec. 31

    FULDA – The Fulda Sportsman Club will host a New Year’s Eve dine and dance Dec. 31.
    Doors will open at 6 p.m. with meal served at 6:30 p.m. Entertainment provided by Final Tour from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
    Cost is $15 per person. Proceeds to be used for upkeep and maintenance of the club. Tickets available by calling (812) 357-5202.

  • FFA students to take part in Saturday contest

    LEOPOLD – The Perry Central FFA Forestry Team will compete in the State Forestry Career Development Event judging contest Saturday at Purdue University.
    Team members are Callie Poehlein, Hillary Hubert, Crystal Peter and Kaitlyn Poehlein.
    The team won this honor by placing sixth in the Area Career Development Event. Career Development Events are designed to encourage youth to learn all they can about a specific topic. They learn to identify forestry specimens. They must also complete a quiz on this topic.

    Ronin LaRue Thomas
    Cory Thomas and Jayna Elliott of Tell City announce the birth of their child, Ronin LaRue Thomas, born Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City.
    The infant weighed 8 pounds and was 201⁄4 inches long.
    Grandparents are Robin Thomas and Carl Young of Tell City, John Elliot and Ruth Brown of Dale, Randy Thomas and Paula Adams of Maceo, Ky., and Gina Elliott of Cannelton.
