  • Board approves tuition rates

    Budget process progresses for Tell City schools

    TELL CITY - Tell City-Troy Township School Board members approved in a special meeting Tuesday a tuition schedule recommended by Schools Superintendent Ron Etienne. He said, however, uncertainty remains as to whether tuition will be charged at all after the first of the year.

    "It's complicated, with the rates changing at the end of '08," Etienne said of the list of tuition charges he provided.

  • Link-N-Go adds new vehicle to fleet

    TELL CITY - One year ago, Southern Indiana Resource Solutions, Inc. began offering transportation services under the name Link-N-Go Transit Service.

    The group provides Medicaid recipients with medically related transportation in Dubois, Perry and Warrick counties and collaborate with Ride Solutions to offer public transportation in Dubois and Warrick counties.

    The service has expanded its fleet with the addition of a low-floor vehicle with wheelchair ramps.

  • Extension educator excited about job

    CANNELTON - Improving current programs and implementing new ones are just the beginning for new Perry County extension educator and 4-H youth development coordinator Renate Jobst.

    A former 4-H'er herself, Jobst said the time she spent as a 10-year member and volunteer helped her develop leadership skills and acquire contacts who became like family members. She wants Perry County 4-H'ers to have the same opportunities.

    Fiscal body OKs $120,000 in advances

    TELL CITY - Perry County Council members learned a proposed Troy Township budget for next year didn't show as large an increase from this year as they were told previously, and provided in a regular meeting Thursday a nonbinding review required under a new law.

  • BREAKING NEWS - Magnet man found dead in field from apparent ATV accident

    MAGNET - An autopsy is scheduled today for a man found dead Sunday in a field along Unison Road near Magnet.

    The body of Eric Williams, 40, of Magnet was found next to his all-terrain vehicle several feet from the roadway's edge in a neighbor's field, police said.

    The property owner's son-in-law saw tracks leading from the road into a cornfield early Sunday morning but didn't stop, thinking someone drove into the field and left.

    TELL CITY - Sitting in a Tell City High School parking lot at night used to be a common - and legal - activity for some people. Now it's trespassing.

  • Commodores stop Cougars

    LEOPOLD - Perry Central held South Decatur to 18 yards of total offense and got a big offensive game from T.J. Hall to beat the Cougars 30-6 in football Saturday.

    The Commodores totally stopped South Decatur's running game, holding the Cougars to minus-2 yards on 25 carries.

    A 20-yard loss after a bad snap on what was supposed to be a punt and two quarterback sacks - one by Dakota Huff and one by Robbie Piper - severely hurt the Cougars' rushing yardage.

    But their top running back, Lincoln Hacker, gained only 35 yards on 18 carries.

  • Thomas leads Tell City past Rebels

    ROCKPORT - Amber Thomas shot a 6-over-par 42 to lead Tell City past South Spencer 238-241 in girls golf Wednesday.

    Thomas birdied two holes, the par-3 No. 3 hole and the par-4 No. 6 hole, on her way to medalist honors on the Lakewood Country Club course.

    She turned in her best score of the season and tied for the best of her career.

    She finished seven strokes ahead of South Spencer leader Shayna Miller.

    Tell City's second and third scorers were C.J. Fentress with a 63 and Jessica Ballman 65.

  • Cougars defeat Perry Central

    LEOPOLD - Perry Central had good spiking and serving statistics but lost to North Harrison 13-25, 25-17, 25-27, 25-8, 15-12 in volleyball Thursday.

    Megan Hedinger made 13 kills and 10 blocks for Perry Central.

    Jessica Huber added eight kills and two blocks and Emily Tempel made four kills.

    Sloan Harpenau had 13 assists and Tessa Lynch added 10 to aid the hitters.

    Lynch served three aces and Huber added two. Kyla Edwards went 15 for 15 serving with one ace.

  • Gibson Southern tops Tell City

    TELL CITY - Learning a new offense and having serve reception problems contributed to Tell City's 25-16, 19-25, 25-21, 25-10 PAC volleyball loss to Gibson Southern Thursday.

    "We just put in a new offense yesterday (switching from a 5-1 to a 6-2) and I felt like that was a learning experience again," said Tell City Coach Dalonda Hayes.

    Paige Gelarden, who became the second setter in the new offense, had eight assists and original setter Julie Davis had 11. And the Marksmen "had more attacks than we'd had in the last two games," said Hayes.
