    TELL CITY—Corydon used aggressive physical play to wear down Perry Central and beat the Commodores 64-49 in the first round of the PSC Holiday Classic boys basketball tourney Tuesday.

    CANNELTON—Cannelton hit free throws better than usual to offset poor rebounding and field-goal shooting and beat Cloverport 60-56 in the first round of the Bulldog Invitational boys basketball tourney Monday.

  • Several snowed-out events rescheduled

    PERRY COUNTY—Several local sports events snowed out the week of Dec.13-18 have been rescheduled.
    Perry Central’s varsity boys basketball home game with Springs Valley, postponed Dec. 17, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.
    The Commodores’ varsity girls basketball game at Orleans, postponed Dec. 16, has been reschedule for Thursday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. (all times listed are Perry County times).

  • Commodores place 3 on all-tourney

    LEOPOLD—Three Perry Central girls basketball players were named to the All-PSC Holiday Tip-Off tourney team.
    Sophomore center Ashley Graves, senior forward Deidra Dickerson and senior guard Lavina Schwartz made all-tourney after helping the Commodores go 3-0 to win the round-robin event.
    Joining them on the all-tourney team were Tell City forward Stori Beard, South Spencer guard Samantha Beatty and Heritage Hills center Megan Kloeck.

  • Tell City graduate helps KWC women to 6-2 start

    OWENSBORO, Ky.—Tell City graduate Lauren Goffinet has helped Kentucky Wesleyan College’s women’s basketball team to a 6-2 start this season.
    Goffinet, a 5-foot-10 sophomore, is the only player to have started every game for the Panthers this season. Though she plays guard, she jumps center at the start of each game.
    New co-coaches Caleb and Nicole Nieman are using a running, pressing style this year, so they use a lot of players and the starters are playing slightly fewer minutes than last year.

  • PC football sectional title top local story

    Three IHSAA sectionals were won by Perry County teams in 2010, by Perry Central in football and boys and girls cross country—all in the fall.

  • Chamber announces Christmas giveaway winners

    PERRY COUNTY - The Perry County Chamber of Commerce along with participating businesses announce this year’s Christmas Cash Giveaway winners. To win, shoppers must have registered at one of the participating merchants before Dec. 23. The promotion was intended to encourage local shopping over the holiday season and give local residents some extra shopping money compliments of local businesses. The total cash given away this year was more than $1,000. There was a winner from each participating location each week.

  • Sixth-graders play math teachers for a day

    Sixth-grade math students taught math lessons to second- and third-grade students Dec. 21. Sixth-grader Lucas Montgomery, was teaching his group the steps to subtracting various amounts of money. The second-grade students pictured from the top include Gavin James, Michael Flores, Justice Kuster, Bailee Johnson, Jaymonn Hermann and Gary Kellems.
