More than 250 descendants of a pioneering Perry County couple returned to their family's Oil Township roots Saturday and Sunday for the 100th Esarey Family Reunion. • Old-timers prove they can still hit even on hot night

TELL CITY—A severe heat wave probably hurt the turnout for the annual Schweizer Fest old-timers baseball game Tuesday and resulted in most of the pitching being done by machine.

“One of the kids asked me if I needed a runner and I told him I’m going to run for myself until I’m 60,” said Tom Hess, 56.

But Overton actually has an even closer tie to Perry County: His mother, the former Sharon Dauby, is a 1967 graduate of Tell City High School.

She met her future husband when she went to college at Terre Haute to become a teacher.
