  • Fast-tracked disability process now has 200 medical conditions

    NEW ALBANY – With the addition of 35 new compassionate-allowances conditions involving cancers and rare diseases, there are now a total of 200 disabling conditions that qualify for Social Security’s expedited disability process. 

  • Stepping Stones accepting new students

    LEOPOLD — Stepping Stones Preschool, located in the St. Augustine Catholic Church Parish Hall basement, is accepting registrations for the 2013-14 school year. The preschool seeks to provide a positive educational experience for 3- and 4-year-olds, preparing them for elementary school.

  • Perry Central plans annual roundup dates

    LEOPOLD – Perry Central is accepting registrations for preschool and kindergarten students for the 2013-14 school year. Children who will be 4 years old by Aug. 1 are eligible to attend preschool. Children who will be 5 years old by Aug. 1 are eligible for kindergarten.
    Preschool roundup will be held April 19. Roundup for kindergarten students who do not currently attend preschool at Perry Central will be held April 26.
    Students who currently attend Perry Central preschool will automatically be registered for kindergarten next year.

    Cannelton First Baptist to show movie
    CANNELTON – The First Baptist Church in Cannelton invites the public to attend a showing of “Paul the Apostle,” a documentary on Paul’s teachings to help better understand the life of Paul. The event will be held at 4 p.m.  Feb. 24, at the First Baptist Church, 325 South Fourth St., in Cannelton. The movie is approximately three hours long and light refreshments will be served.
    Everyone is encouraged to attend.

  • Families may be eligible for energy bill assistance

    PERRY COUNTY – Perry, Spencer and Crawford county residents may apply for assistance with their heating bills through a program called the Energy Assistance Program, Larry K. Kleeman, executive director of Lincoln Hills Development Corp., said recently.

  • Bill regarding agricultural property taxes passes both houses

    INDIANAPOLIS — Senate Bill 319, sponsored by State Rep. Don Lehe (R-Brookston) and cosponsored by State Rep. Lloyd Arnold (R-Leavenworth), passed the Indiana House of Representatives Monday with a unanimous vote. SB 319 is the first piece of legislation to pass both houses in the 2013 legislative session.

  • Talk to a lawyer for free March 7

    EVANSVILLE – The regularly scheduled talk- to-a-lawyer call-in program will be held March 7. 

    Volunteer attorneys will be available from 4:30 to 7 p.m. to answer general legal questions asked by the public. To access this free program, call (800) 994-2169.

  • Landscape artist to display work at abbey

    SAINT MEINRAD – Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library Gallery will host an exhibit of landscape paintings in oil and mixed-media prints by Philadelphia artist Clay Johnson. The exhibit will be on display from Saturday to March 28.

    Johnson paints on site, beginning his work with careful observation of his surroundings. He explains, “I look until I see something that moves me and then I construct a painting around that experience.”
    Free play of the imagination is his aim, rather than objective reporting. Color and light are central.

  • Legislative breakfast Saturday

    TELL CITY – The Perry County Chamber of Commerce will host a legislative breakfast Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. at the chamber office. The chamber is located at 601 Main St., Suite A in the Tell City Electric Department building.
