  • Sitzman – Zarfos

    Kenny and Ramona Elder of Tell City and Mark Sitzman of Mariah Hill announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Rivaye Sitzman, to Justin Zarfos, son of Randal “Zeke” Zarfos of Oriole.
    The bride-elect is a 2006 graduate of Tell City High School and a 2007 graduate of Roger’s Hair Academy.
    She works as a hair stylist at “All About You” salon.
    Mr. Zarfos graduated from Perry Central High School in 2000 and from Ivy Tech State College in 2003.
    He is employed at Don’s Automotive and Machine.

  • LHDC receives stimulus grants

    TELL CITY – Lincoln Hills Development Corp. Executive Director Larry K. Kleeman announced that LHDC recently received continuation grants for its Head Start and Early Head Start programs funded last year through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

  • Voters must take photo ID to polls

    PERRY COUNTY – County Clerk Jean M. Schulthise reminds voters in all Perry County precincts that several changes to the election process in 2006 as a result of both federal and state election reform legislation are still applicable in 2010.

    Voters are required to present photo ID at the polls on Election Day, Nov. 2, before casting a ballot. The ID must meet the following criteria:

    1. Display the voter’s name, and the name must conform to the name on the voter registration record.

    2. Display the voter’s photo.

  • Nolan – Bockhold

    Sarah Nolan and Jeff Bockhold of Jeffersonville announce their engagement and approaching wedding.
    The bride-elect is the daughter of Steve of Dee Ann Nolan of Loogootee.
    She is a graduate of Loogootee High School and Indiana University Southeast.
    Mr. Bockhold is the son of Debbie LaGrange of Tell City and the late Jerry Bockhold.
    He is a graduate of Perry Central High School and the University of Southern Indiana.

  • Tires slashed outside of Main Street bar

    TELL CITY – Police detained a male juvenile Monday in their investigation into vandalism to vehicles parked near Braunie’s Bar.
    Officers received the call late Saturday night that 13 cars had their tires slashed.

    Cpl. Marty Haughee and Patrolwoman Heather Glenn fielded the initial call and Lt. Alan Malone said a male juvenile was detained Monday.

    Anyone with information is asked to call the Tell City Police Department at 547-7068 or the department’s anonymous tip line at 547-9563.

  • Maple tree gone, but Frymire back with famed forecast

    IRVINGTON, Ky. – L.H. “Dick” Frymire’s famous Japanese maple — reportedly a survivor of two lightning strikes and a twister — will no longer offer predictions such as when the year’s first robin will appear.

    “We’re getting ready to cut it down,” he said. “It’s just plain dead.”

    TELL CITY – Tell City’s mayor was hesitant to set a firm date for the work to take place, but Barbara Ewing said Monday that portions of heavily traveled Washington Street will be repaved in coming weeks.

    William Tell Elementary School students, staff, administrators and several parents walked from the Tell City-Perry County Public Library to the school Wednesday, providing a local observance of International Walk to School Day.

  • Cannelton students earn awards for Web site

    CANNELTON – The three media-club members who were active through last year in Cannelton earned several payoffs for their efforts.

    A research-based Web site they produced on the Iditarod sled-dog race earned an Excellence in Media Award at the latest International Student Media Festival, as did two single photos and a photo essay submitted by members.
