  • Local students serve as pages

    PERRY COUNTY – Emma Kohnert and Amy Hackbarth recently served as Indiana House Pages during the 2013 session of the Indiana General Assembly.

    The Indiana House of Representatives offers an unparalleled opportunity for students between the ages of 13 and 18 to visit the Statehouse and experience a full day of legislative activity.
    Pages are able to see how the state legislature works firsthand in a behind-the-scenes tour. They get to work alongside legislators, legislative assistants and interns.

  • Annual Trike-athon winners

    Stepping Stones Preschool collected $2,100 for the St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital during its annual Trike-athon recently. The top two fundraisers in the school, Aiden Duncan and Frankie Faust, earned new bikes and helmets for their efforts. The bikes and helmets were donated by Waupaca.

  • Spring open house at South Perry Head Start set for April 25

    TELL CITY – The Lincoln Hills Development Corp. South Perry Head Start is currently taking applications for enrollment for the 2013-14 school year.
    Any interested family or community member is invited to attend an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. April 25 at the Head Start Center, at the corner of 19th and Tell streets in Tell City.
    Parents and guardians may complete enrollment information for children during the open house, visit classrooms, talk with teachers and learn more about Head Start.

  • Rome Dogwood Fest plans announced

    ROME – The annual Rome Dogwood Festival will kick off April 28 at the old courthouse in Rome.
    Fried-chicken dinners will be available beginning at 11 a.m. Meals will include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, bread, slaw and homemade dessert with tea or lemonade.

  • Students get hands-on experience at Jasper Engines

    On March 14, Perry Central students had the opportunity to take a field trip to Jasper Engines, the Crawford County Division.

    They were treated to a tour of the plant, hands on activities in the dojo training center, team building activities and a pizza lunch. The students were very impressed with the training that is offered to Jasper’s employees.

  • Church News, April 18

    Public invited to sing-a-long with Cannelton  UMC
    CANNELTON – Be ready to clap your hands and tap your feet with the congregation of Cannelton United Methodist Church during a sing-a-long at 3 p.m. April 21 at the church, Third and Taylor streets.
    The church will offer choral selections and there will be plenty of time to sing favorite hymns.
    Friends and family are welcome and those attending are asked to take a covered dish to share in a light supper after.

  • Kayaking for beginners Saturday

    BIRDSEYE – Have you ever wished you knew how to kayak or wanted to try it out before buying your own equipment?
    Join the Patoka Lake Interpretive Naturalist at the beach for a beginners kayaking lesson at 2 p.m. EDT April 20.
    During this short lesson, participants will get to try their hands at a few different kayaks and paddles. Participants will learn what gear is needed and the best places to paddle on Patoka.
    All equipment including life jackets will be provided, just take friends and family.

  • Cannelton egg-hunt champs

    The annual Cannelton Legion Auxiliary Easter Egg Hunt was held March 30 at Cannelton Legion Field.

    More than 1,200 eggs stuffed with candy and food coupons were hidden for kids up to 10 years of age to find. The following were winners of the special “bicycle egg” in their categories. Pictured from the left are Danielle Wroe, 8 to 10 years old; Levi Smith, 5 to 7 years old; Wyatt Luttrell, 3 to 4 years old and Philip Royer, 0 to 2 years old.

  • Tom and Carol Vaal

    Mr. and Mrs. Tom Vaal of St. Meinrad will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, May 4, 2013. A Mass of Thanksgiving will be said at St. Meinrad Catholic Church at 2 p.m.

    An open house and reception will immediately follow at the Fulda Sportsman Club. The couple requests no gifts.
