The expansion of sports coverage on the Internet in the last 10 years has been a boon for sports fans, but it has also led to some sports publications biting the dust.

Sport Magazine, Basketball Digest, Basketball Weekly, Hockey Digest and Street & Smith’s sports annuals are among the once successful magazines that are no longer published.

Others have cut back on their frequency. Baseball Digest, long known as “baseball’s only monthly magazine,” has gone from 12 to 10 and now eight issues per year.

TELL CITY—A basketball team than wins 17 games and a sectional title and returns four seniors including its leading scorer—a player who should finish at least in the top three on the school’s all-time scoring list—might think it is in great shape.

But a team that returns only one starter, lacks overall quickness, and has a guard for its tallest player might be worried about its upcoming season.

Both those descriptions fit Tell City’s girls team this year, so it’s kind of hard to predict how the Marksmen will fare.

CANNELTON — A dance beginning at 6 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Cannelton American Legion hall at 516 Knight St., will raise money to help defray medical and related costs for a 1-year-old child attacked by a dog Oct. 29.

Chandler Humphrey was to have undergone a third surgery Nov. 11 at Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Ky., for an injury to his forehead.

His parents, Daniel Humphrey and Ashley Demme, are unable to work due to medical appointments and frequent trips to Louisville. The benefit will feature entertainment by Oddbody.
