TELL CITY – Police said a Tell City man with a blood-alcohol concentration twice the legal limit led them on a nearly 20-minute chase early Saturday before pulling into his garage.

Unfortunately for him, several officers were on his tail and the adventure ended in jail.

Stephen D. Cronin, 53, of 1505 20th St., faces charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and resisting law enforcement, both felonies. Cronin was lodged in the county jail on $4,205 bond but he was released on his own recognizance Monday.

Today is the 33rd Great American Smokeout, and the American Cancer Society continues its legacy of providing free resources to help smokers quit.

The Great American Smokeout was inaugurated in 1976 to inspire and encourage smokers to quit for one day. Now, 44.2 percent of the 45.3 million Americans who smoke have attempted to quit for at least one day in the past year, and the Great American Smokeout remains a great opportunity to encourage people to commit to making a long-term plan to quit for good.

Formal charges haven't been filed yet but two people, identified by officers as Cristin K. Turner, 24, and 45-year-old Donald S. King, both of rural Cannelton, were arrested and face charges of theft and credit-card fraud. Police said most of the toys and other items were purchased at Tell City's Wal-Mart with a credit card taken from a relative of Turner's.
