  • Claise shuts out Crawford, Paoli

    MARENGO—Miranda Claise pitched shutouts against PLAC opponents Saturday and Monday as Perry Central put itself in the driver’s seat for its first conference softball title.
    Claise pitched a four-hitter as the Commodores beat Crawford County 3-0 Satur-day. She struck out nine and walked two.
    Brittany Parker hit a triple and scored on an error for the game’s first run in the second inning.
    Morgan Richardson capped the scoring with a solo home run over the left-field fence in the seventh inning.

  • District American Legion Junior Auxiliary meeting

    ST. MEINRAD – The Eighth District American Legion Junior Auxiliary meeting was held at St. Meinrad Legion Post 366 April 14. President Emma Hassfurther opened the meeting at 1:15 p.m. Flags were presented by Ethan Hassfurther and Christopher Lange. The opening prayer was read by Emily Lange, followed by members reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

  • Hayes helps West rout East

    LYNNVILLE—Tell City senior McKenzie Hayes had 10 points, 11 rebounds, two blocked shots, one assist and one steal to help the West trounce the East 77-57 in the Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association girls basketball all-star game Sunday.
    Hayes played 15 minutes, 57 seconds, as there were 12 players on the West team.
    She was the fourth leading scorer on the team and was probably the leading rebounder. She hit 5 of 12 shots from the field.

  • Cannelton students support military kids

    Cannelton elementary students in prekindergarten through fifth grades celebrated supporting Military Kids by wearing purple April 15. Everyone wore purple and were given support buttons by the Cannelton mayor’s office. April is the Month of the Military Child.

    TELL CITY – Deer Creek Baptist Church in Tell City will host the American Baptist Women’s Spring conference today at the church.
    Registration and breakfast will be at 9:30 a.m. The meeting will follow at 10 a.m.

    Annual May Monte Cassino pilgrimages planned
    ST. MEINRAD – Saint Meinrad Archabbey’s pilgrimages to honor the Blessed Mother at the Monte Cassino Shrine have been scheduled for the Sundays in May.

    ST. MEINRAD – Eight seminarians studying at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology received the order of deacon April 6 from the Most Rev. Joseph Tobin, archbishop of Indianapolis.

  • A Living History Lesson

    William Tell Elementary School fifth-graders learned about the lives of their pioneer counterparts Monday, touring the Shubael Little Pioneer for a morning of hands-on learning and plenty of fun. Activities included candle-making, sampling food cooked in a stone oven and learning about the games and chores youngsters their ages would have known in the 1800s. 

  • County commissioners plan town-hall-style meeting at Perry Central High School’s library 7 p.m. May 2

    LEOPOLD – The Perry County commissioners will open a special meeting at 7 p.m. May 2 in the Perry Central High School Library that “will be similar to that of a town-hall session,” according to County Administrator Teresa Kanneberg.

    The commissioners will introduce themselves, then open the floor to the public for questions,comments and concerns, she explained.

    CANNELTON – “We Ride To Save Lives” is again the motto of the Cannelton Schools Bike-athon for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Myers Grade School.
