  • First Miss Heritage Fest Pageant set for Oct. 13 in Cannelton

    CANNELTON – The Cannelton Heritage Festival will sponsor the Miss Heritage Fest Pageant at the Covered Wagon Oct. 13. 

    The Little Miss Pageant, for 7- to 9-year-old girls, will begin promptly at 10 a.m., followed by the Miss Pre-Teen Pageant, for 10- to 12-year-old girls. Immediately following the Miss Pre-Teen Pageant, the Miss Teen Pageant, for 13- to 15-year-old girls, will begin. The Miss Heritage Festival Pageant, for 16- to 19-year-old girls, will begin at the conclusion of the Miss Teen Pageant. 

  • Big John Williams memorial poker run set

    PERRY COUNTY – The Big John Williams Memorial Poker Run will be Sept. 8.

    Registration is from 9 to 11 a.m. at Braunie’s Bar in Tell City. All bikes will be out at 11 a.m. and return at 4:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per hand or $15 for a double. There will be a meal at the end of the ride as well as door prizes and a half-pot drawing. 

    All vehicles are welcome.  For questions or information, contact Joe at 547-8803. All proceeds go to the John Williams Memorial Scholarship, a scholarship of the Perry County Community Foundation.

  • Meet-and-greet with Democrat candidates

    TELL CITY – Perry County Democrats will host a meet-and-greet gathering with candidates from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Perry County Democrat headquarters, 1120 Rubens St. in Tell City.

  • Board hires new teacher, makes personnel changes

    CANNELTON – Cannelton high-school students starting a new school year today will see a new social-studies teacher and two familiar administrators will be working under new titles.

    The city’s school board voted at an Aug. 2 meeting to employ Adam Figg as the teacher and assistant varsity boys basketball coach. Dan Freed is now academic dean and Brian Garrett is administrative assistant to the principal.

  • Mulzers will give Derby park to county-led board

    CANNELTON – Mulzer Park in Derby will soon become the latest park owned by the Perry County Parks and Recreation Department.

    The department has been operating the park for years, leasing it from Mulzer Crushed Stone. The lease has expired, so Perry County Recreation Director Adam Tempel told the parks board Wednesday, “We approached them about renewing the lease or turning the park over to us, and they have notified us they are turning it over to us.”

    New directional signs were installed Thursday at five Main Street intersections in Tell City, offering arrows and relative distances to businesses, government offices and local attractions in the city.

  • Three-car crash claims woman’s life

    PERRY COUNTY – One driver was killed and two others transported to hospitals after a wreck that occurred just before 4:30 p.m. Thursday on Indiana 37 near its intersection with Indiana 237.

    Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Daymion Marsh said at the scene one vehicle crossed the center line and struck another. A third vehicle was also involved.

    A news release issued by the Perry County Sheriff's Department Friday morning reported Phoenix Schaefer, 27, of Saint Meinrad, died shortly after arriving at Owensboro Medical Health System.

  • Bids for new jail begin at $10 million

    TELL CITY – County commissioners heard offers Monday from eight companies hoping to build a new county jail. Their base bids ranged from $10,035,000 to $12,555,000.
