  • Greenway ribbon cutting this week

    TELL CITY - A dedication ceremony for the new Windy Creek Trail, part of the Perry County Greenway Initiative located in Hagedorn Park, is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday.

    The ceremony will be held at the Windy Creek Trailhead, located near the intersection of Indiana 37 and Brushy Fork Road.

    Visitors should park near the city pool at Lafayette and 14th streets and walk the short distance to the trailhead. Parking at the trailhead itself is reserved for those needing handicapped parking.

  • Hydrant flushing begins today

    TELL CITY - The Tell City Water Department begin its yearly autumn flushing of fire hydrants today. City workers will begin on Fourth Street and work eastward during the week. Residents may notice low water pressure when crews are in their area and the department asks Tell Citians to be cautious when doing laundry since flushing often creates a temporary discoloration of water.

  • Ag, music programs thriving at Perry Central

    LEOPOLD - A pair of teachers in their first year at Perry Central Community School Corp. offered positive words and proof of their students' talents last Monday during a regular meeting of the school's board of trustees.

    Brian Springer and James Powell were the main speakers during a monthly "highlights" segment of the board that shares news and recent accomplishments.

    Springer said classes he's teaching are going well and include an introductory course in agriculture for seventh-graders and a fundamentals-of-ag science class for eighth- and ninth-graders.

  • Vet-services officer's hours extended

    Hubert expects needs to mushroom next year

    TELL CITY - Perry County commissioners increased the working hours for the county's veterans-services officer and named a replacement to the airport authority board of directors in a regular meeting Oct. 20.

    In response to a plea from Veterans Services Officer Wayne Hubert, the commissioners extended his hours from 17.5 to 28 per week.

  • Residents can still apply for storm aid

    Phone, Web site best ways to register for assistance

    TELL CITY - Perry County residents impacted by a September windstorm who have not yet applied for federal disaster assistance are encouraged to do so soon by telephoning a Federal Emergency Management Agency hotline or logging onto to FEMA's Web site.

    Perry County is included in a presidential disaster declaration providing help with home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other aid in the wake of the remnants of Hurricane Ike that caused widespread damage in the county.

    Explosion of Fun Halloween night

    TELL CITY - Community Christian Church will hold its annual Explosion of Fun event from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. An alternative to Halloween, the event is for children up to the sixth grade.

    Legion plans party for children

    TELL CITY - American Legion Post 213 will have a children's Halloween party from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the post.

    TELL CITY - The Perry County Republican Headquarters will be open 4 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The public can pick up signs or sign up to vote absentee.

  • Students to participate in mock election

    TELL CITY - Eighth-grade students at Tell City Junior High will conduct a mock election Tuesday.

    Students will use an online voting system as they participate in a mock election program sponsored by the Youth Leadership Initiative, a national civic education program based at the University of Virginia Center for Politics. With millions of students expected to vote nationwide during the voting period, the mock election is the largest secure, online mock election in the nation.
