  • Officials object to claim city deficit was no one’s fault

    CANNELTON – Cannelton Common Councilman Melvin McBrayer hesitated at first, but then decided at a regular meeting March 12 to voice concerns he said he’d been hearing for a month.

    “People have been asking me constantly,” he started, “about an article that was in the paper, and when I read about what the ex-mayor of Tell City had said, (that) it wasn’t anybody’s fault about what happened to the $113,000 – I would really like to know whose fault it is.”

  • Saturday benefit to give hope, support to local children battling cancer

    PERRY COUNTY – Perry County is home to four children battling cancer and one fighting devastating bone disease. 

    Tyler Cundiff, the 17-year-old son of Michelle Taylor, has acute lymphoblastic leukemia and has been at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis since November. Eighteen-year-old Devin Hall, son of Mike and Kim Hall, has Langerhans cell histocytosis, formerly called eosino-philiac granuloma, a rare disease which causes tumors to form on the bones and for which the only treatment available is chemotherapy.

  • Stepping Stones students bike for St. Jude’s

    Stepping Stones Preschool conducted its annual St. Jude’s Trike-athon in February.

    The students collected a total of $2,500. Nolan Hall (pictured at left) raised $400 and Ethan Howard (right) raised $326, making them the top fundraisers for the event. The boys were awarded a new bicycle and helmet from Waupaca for their efforts. Ava Labhart (center) came in third with $313 and received a bicycle basket.

  • Dale’s second car show set for April 15

    DALE – The second annual Dale Car Show will be held April 15 in Dale Town Park, located at the corner of Medcalf and Wallace streets.
    Registration is from 8 to 11 a.m. and cost is $10 per vehicle. Judging will begin at noon with awards presented at 3 p.m. Trophies will be awarded to the top 30 vehicles with three special awards, and to the top five bikes. Dash plaques, door prizes and goody bags will also be available. Those attending will also be able to play various games throughout the day.

    Senior student workshop at Tell City Friday
    TELL CITY – Tell City Junior-Senior High School welcomes juniors and their parents or guardians to attend a senior-year workshop at 6:30 p.m.Friday in the school auditorium.

  • Local student wins Optimist Club essay contest

    TELL CITY – Destiny Brumfield, a senior at Tell City Junior-Senior High School, recently won the Optimist Club of Tell City’s essay contest, based on a theme of “How my Positive Outlook Benefits my Community.”

    Brumfield was awarded the first-place gold medal for the honor. In addition, the essay will be sent to the district level to be judged along with winners from other Optimist clubs in the district. College scholarships are available for top winners at the district level.

  • Girl Scouts to host Fun Run-Walk April 21

    PERRY COUNTY – Perry County Girl Scout troops 356, 511, 328 and 126 will host a fun run-walk fundraiser April 21 to raise money for a trip to New York. The event will begin at City Hall in Tell City. Participants will follow a route around town, through the new greenway and back to City Hall.

  • Tell City Ghost Hunters help Perry County Museum

    The Tell City Ghost Hunters hosted a pancake breakfast March 17, with all proceeds to benefit the Perry County Museum in Cannelton.
