  • Republican picnic set for Oct. 16

    TROY – The Perry and Spencer Republican annual picnic will be held Oct. 16 at Mulzer’s camp near Troy. Gates open at noon with a meal served at 1 p.m.
    Admission is $15 for adults, $7.50 students and children 6 and under will be admitted for free. Tickets are available by calling your precinct committeeman or Jeff Lindsey at 649-4571. The featured guest is State Auditor Tim Berry. Everyone is welcome to attend.

    CANNELTON – The Cannelton High School Class of 1966 will hold its 45th class reunion at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Bill & Dave’s Smokin Pit in Tell City.

  • Teams hit the streets Sunday, raise more than $12,000 for babies

    With money still coming in, Sunday’s March of Dimes March for Babies raised more than $12,000 toward this year’s goal of nearly $15,000.

  • Immunization clinics cancelled next week

    TELL CITY – Due to staffing conflicts, the Perry County Health Department immunization clinics will be cancelled Oct. 10 at the clinic on French Ridge Road and Indiana 37 and Oct. 11 at the Perry County Health Department in Cannelton.

  • Heritage Fest Scavenger Hunt - Cannelton Edition

    Following on the heels of a Schweizer Fest scavenger hunt published every summer, The News is sponsoring a similar event marking Cannelton’s Heritage Fest celebration Saturday.

    Readers are invited to try to identify these landmarks, all located in Cannelton. What we need from you are locations, being as specific as possible.

    We’ll place all the correct entries, or those who correctly identify the most photos, into a hat.

    The winner of the drawing will win a one-year subscription to The News.

  • Concert of Baroque Sacred Music to be held at Ferdinand Monastery Oct. 29

    FERDINAND – A unique ensemble, Heartland Baroque, will perform sacred music from the 17th century at 7:30 p.m. EDT Saturday, Oct. 29 in Monastery Immaculate Conception Church in Ferdinand.

    Members of the Midwest-based group are among the country’s leading specialists in historically informed music of the baroque era. Using period instruments, they will perform compositions for violin, harpsichord, and soprano.

  • Benefit hog roast set for Saturday at Performance Cycle

    TELL CITY – Performance Cycle, 1621 Main St. in Tell City, will host a hog roast Oct. 8 to benefit two programs that provide Christmas gifts to local children.
    The event is open to the public and will include a full hog roast and side dishes.
    Serving will begin at 3 p.m. and continue until dusk.
    Guests can eat on site or purchase carry-out meals.
    Proceeds will help the Fraternal Order of Police’s Shop with a Cop and the Tell City Fire Department’s Christmas for Kids programs.
    The public is invited.

  • Old-time church service planned during Shubael Little village celebration

    CANNELTON – The Shubael Little Pioneer Village will hold its first old-time church service at 11 a.m. Oct. 16.
    The Missionary Baptist Church of Patesville, Ky., will conduct the service at the village during its open house. The service will feature old-time hymns sung a cappella and with string-instrument accompaniment. The service will be led by Brother Steve Jackson.
    The Shubael Little Pioneer Village’s annual open house will be from 10 a.m. until dark Oct. 15 and Oct. 16.  The village will dedicate a carpenter shop at 2 p.m. Oct. 15.

    Mass at St. Joe’s Cemetery
    BRISTOW – The Rev. Guy Mansini OSB will hold an outdoor mass at St. Joe’s Cemetery at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting.
    In case of rain, there will be the usual mass at 6 p.m. at St. Isidore Catholic Church.
