  • Gunn and Hagedorn

    Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gunn and Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Hagedorn of Fulda will celebrate their respective wedding anniversaries Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011.

    Sixty years ago, Carl and Helen (Collignon) Gunn were united in marriage Nov. 6, 1951, in the St. Paul Catholic Church Rectory in Tell City.
    Twenty-five years later, Nov. 6, 1976, their daughter, Polly, married Maurice Hagedorn in the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Fulda.

  • Blunk may report on record

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Krista Blunk set several records at Tell City High School and will likely get to report on an NCAA record Saturday.
    Blunk will be the sideline reporter for CBSSports telecast of the University of Houston at Alabama-Birmingham football game.
    Houston quarterback Case Keenum has already set NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision career records for touchdown passes, total offense and total touchdowns accounted for and is likely to break the career record for most passing yards Saturday.

  • Dixon’s son recalls dad’s coaching days

    The coach of Tell City’s first boys basketball sectional championship team won’t be able to attend the team’s alumni game Nov. 26. But his son is thinking about attending and called from his home in Seattle Monday to reminisce about his dad’s career.
    Napoleon Dixon, who coached the 1923-24 Tell City squad to an undefeated regular season and the sectional title, died in 1988 at age 94.

  • Tell City cheerleaders qualify to compete for state title

    NEW CASTLE—Tell City High School’s cheerleading squad will compete in the Indiana Cheer Championship State Finals at New Castle High School  Saturday.
    Tell City’s squad is scheduled to compete at 11:43 a.m. Perry County time.
    Tell City qualified by placing fourth among nine teams in Class 2A (classes based on each school’s basketball classification) at the state championship preliminary competition last Saturday at Pendleton Heights High School.

  • Peter 80th in state meet

    TERRE HAUTE—Perry Central junior Cathryn Peter improved her time and place slightly over last year at the IHSAA girls state cross country meet Saturday.

    Earlier this month, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack laid out his priorities for the upcoming farm bill. This bill is about a whole lot more than farming: it’s about supporting the jobs of the future, it’s about keeping pace with the changing needs of agriculture and rural America and it’s about providing a food supply for the nation.
