  • LHDC Healthy Families host holiday party

    TELL CITY - It was "the season to be jolly," as Healthy Families hosted its annual holiday party Dec. 10 at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Tell City. Eleven families participated in the festivities.

    "Cookies with Santa" was the theme for this year's gathering. Parents and children decorated cookies and made reindeer puppets while waiting for Santa's arrival.

    Upon his entrance, some children stared in awe; one boy gave a toothless grin while others were a bit unsure of the bearded man in the red suit.

  • Angel Food menus for January now available at News office

    TELL CITY - January menus and order forms for Angel Food Ministries' discount-food program are available at The News.

    The program offers $30 boxes of food valued at $60 or more, as well as senior boxes of 10 fully cooked meals for $28 and an allergen-free box of food for $23. There are also meat and fruit and vegetable specials for the month.

    January orders are due Jan. 12 with food delivered Jan. 23. A new feature allows orders to be placed online and paid for with a debit or credit card.

  • Relay for Life to host kick-off event Jan. 11

    TELL CITY - The Perry County Relay for Life will hold a kick-off event at 6 p.m. Jan. 11 at the United Methodist Church in Tell City.

    The event is for all individuals interested in participating in the 2010 Relay for Life.

    The committee is going to try new things and encourages all those who are willing to help out to attend so that they will be informed of future events.

    TELL CITY - A night of fun and fellowship is planned Thursday at Perry County Republicans' annual dinner at Bill & Dave's Smokin' Pit. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:15. Cost is $8 per person. For tickets, call Tom McCart at 547-6156.

  • Conservation Club euchre tourney Saturday

    LEOPOLD - The Leopold Conservation Club will host a euchre tourney Saturday at the clubhouse. Doors open at 6 p.m. and games will start at 7. Food and refreshments will be available. There will be no smoking during the tourneys.

  • Optimists to host chili dinner Jan. 16

    TELL CITY - Tell City Optimist Club members will host their annual chili dinner Jan. 16 at Tell City High School before that night's varsity basketball game.

    A bowl of chili, sandwich, drink and dessert can be purchased for $7. Serving begins at 5:30 p.m.

    This year's event is being named in memory of Nemo Ress, who was very active with past chili dinners.

    TELL CITY - The Daughters of Isabella will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Catholic Church Parish Hall.

    Serving on the committee are Eileen Burnette, Hazel Burnette, Betty Cash, Mary L. Cassidy and Janna Chestnut.

  • Hearing on Waupaca monofill Jan. 12

    ROCKPORT — After calling off a planned Dec. 10 hearing to discuss a proposed industrial monofill in Huff Township, the Spencer County Plan Commission has scheduled a public hearing for 6 p.m. Jan. 12.

    The meeting will take place in the Spencer County Youth and Community Center near Chrisney.

    According to a petition filed by ThyssenKrupp Waupaca and landowners Paul and Pamela Metz, the 124-acre site would be used to dispose of solid residual materials generated as byproducts of the Perry County foundry’s operations.
