PERRY COUNTY - Their plan will save money, but the driving force behind a county election board proposal to further reduce the number of polling locations is their difficulty finding precinct workers.
"Workers are getting very, very hard to find," member Pat Crawford said. "It's always a battle right up to the election. Some don't want to do it, but they do because we can't find anyone."
Younger people don't want to sit at an election site for 12 hours for the $95 most of them earn, board member Mary Kay Elder added.
