  • Troy residents asked to set limbs out for chipping

    TROY – Residents of Troy are asked to stack limbs knocked down by the recent ice storm next to the street. Town employees plan to chip the limbs. Residents should not place limbs in the street or take them to Burke Park because of the possibility of flooding in the low-lying area.

  • Red Cross blood drive set

    TELL CITY – With cold and flu season at its peak and inclement weather affecting some parts of the country, the American Red Cross needs healthy and eligible donors to donate blood regularly – especially during the winter months.

    A blood drive will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City.

    Donors must be at least 17 years old or 16 with a signed consent form; have a blood donor card or driver's license or two other forms of identification.

  • City meeting date changes

    CANNELTON – The March meetings of Cannelton's board of public works and safety and common council will be conducted March 2, a week earlier than usual.

    The public-works board meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the council room in the lower level of the Cannelton Public Library.

    The council meeting will follow at 7 p.m.

    City Clerk-Treasurer Arvina Bozarth will be undergoing training the second Monday of the month, the normal meeting day for the groups.

  • Some offices closing for Presidents Day

    TELL CITY – Some governmental offices will be closed Monday in observance of Presidents Day. Federal, state and county offices will be closed. However, city offices in Tell City and Cannelton will be open.

    The Perry County News will be closed Monday. There will be no mail delivery that day but copies of the Feb. 16 edition will be on local newsstands Saturday evening.

  • School board sets make-up days

    TELL CITY – Monday will be the first of several snow days established at a regular Tell City-Troy Township School Board meeting Tuesday.

    Other make-up days will be April 13 and May 22, 26 and 27. Commencement is still planned for May 22.

  • Perry-Spencer Crop Day Tuesday

    FULDA – The 2009 Perry-Spencer Crop Day will be held Tuesday at the Fulda Sportsman's Club. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and is hosted by soil and water conservation districts and Purdue Extension Service offices in both counties.

    Dr. Kiersten Wise, a new extension specialist in the Purdue University Botany and Plant Pathology Department, will be the main speaker. She will cover information on using fungicides in corn production.

  • 'Lincoln' auditions set for this weekend

    LINCOLN CITY – Auditions for "Lincoln" will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Civic Theatre Annex, Washington Square Mall, Evansville.

    "Our artistic staff is looking forward to seeing a lot of local talent during the Evansville auditions," said Steve Wright, Lincoln Amphitheatre's executive producer. "We are searching for an energetic cast who can bring Lincoln's Indiana years to life."

  • Hoosiers Helping Hoosiers food drive benefits county

    TELL CITY – Indiana First Lady Cheri Daniels is sponsoring the Hoosiers Helping Hoosiers food drive during the month of February. The Perry County Department of Child Services has placed barrels at Wal-Mart, Noble's IGA, Cash Saver and Save-A-Lot, as well as their office at 316 E. Indiana 66, Tell City, to collect food items.

    The child services department is partnering with the United Way of Perry County and the Perry County Food Coalition to get the food to local food banks.

  • TC Electric introduces Helping Hands program

    TELL CITY – The board of directors of the Tell City Electric Department has approved a program by which individuals may assist friends or family members with the payment of electric utility bills.

    The program, Helping Hands, allows anonymous donations to be applied to customers' accounts. Forms are available in the office at 601 Main St., Tell City.
