  • Hospital board OKs improvements to Troy clinic

    TELL CITY – Perry County Memorial Hospital trustees ap-proved upcoming improvements to the hospital’s clinic in Troy, radiology equipment and an information systems upgrade. Also approved was the hospital’s 2011 operating budget.
    The hospital will spend about $22,000 to enlarge the waiting area of the clinic by enclosing the existing front porch. This will increase the size of the waiting room by approximately 200 square feet.

    TROY – A Perry County teen was hospitalized Sunday afternoon after apparently being beaten with a bat in a brawl at Troy’s boat ramp
    According to police, Steven C. Gardner, 19, was taken to Perry County Memorial Hospital and later airlifted to an Evansville hospital with head and arm injuries.

  • County’s jobless rate edges higher

    PERRY COUNTY – The local unemployment rate inched up only slightly in November, rising two-tenths of a point to 8.4 percent, but remained well below the state average.
    The Indiana Department of Workforce Development released jobs data last week and said 809 men and women among the county’s 9,598-person work force were looking for jobs during the month.
    Perry County ranked 69th among Indiana’s 92 counties.

  • Tractor rollover proves fatal for county man

    ST. MARKS – A local man died of injuries he sustained Christmas Eve when a farm tractor he was operating near Atlanta Road overturned, pinning him underneath it.

    Mark Alan Wilgus, 51, died Friday at University of Louis-ville Hospital.
    Dispatchers at the Tell City Police Department received a call shortly after 3 p.m. from a woman who told them Wilgus was pinned underneath the tractor.

  • Local teen severely injured in boat-ramp fight

    TROY – A Perry County teen was severely beaten with a bat Sunday afternoon during a fight police suspect of being gang related.
    According to police, Steven C. Gardner, 19, was taken to Perry County Memorial Hospital and later airlifted to an Evansville hospital with head injuries.

  • SWCDs receive $570,000 in water grants

    INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana State Department of Agriculture-Division of Soil Conservation and the State Soil Conservation Board have selected the 2011 recipients of the Clean Water Indiana Grants.
    A total of $573,408 was awarded to all 88 Soil and Water Conservation Districts that submitted a grant application to carry out conservation initiatives.

    PERRY COUNTY – Observances for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays will close some governmental offices this week.
    County offices at the courthouse and annex building in Cannelton will be closed today and again Friday.
    City Hall in Tell City will be closed today and Monday. City Hall will be open Friday.
    There will be a one-day delay in trash pickup this week and next in Tell City. There will be recycling pickup this week.
