  • City seeks funding to fix storm sewers

    CANNELTON - Comments are being accepted and a grant administrator is being sought in an opportunity to remedy storm-water issues in Cannelton.

    Nathan Held, a project assistant with the Indiana 15 Regional Planning Commission, said at a public hearing May 11 the city could apply for up to $1 million through an economic-stimulus opportunity geared toward storm-water systems.

  • Two hurt in Saturday ATV accident on Abner Road

    TELL CITY - An early-morning ATV accident left two people with serious injuries Saturday.

    According to the Perry County Sheriff's Department, Timothy D. Jones, 29, and Nicholas G. Rockwell, 20, were taken to Owensboro Medical Health System by Perry County EMS.

    Rockwell was released this week but Jones was listed Wednesday in serious condition.

    Sheriff's Deputy Richard Kratzer said Jones was driving the 2007 Can-Am four-wheeler when it overturned, throwing him from the ATV. Rockwell was a passenger and was also thrown.

  • Weekend ceremonies to honor veterans' sacrifices

    Memorial Day ceremonies for deceased Perry County veterans, including service members killed on active duty, will be held throughout the area Sunday and Monday.

    Services will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939, Tell City American Legion Post 213, Harry G. Myers American Legion Post 142 of Cannelton and St. Meinrad American Legion Post 366, in conjunction with post auxiliaries and Sons of the American Legion.

  • Joint service planned for Sunday in City Hall Park

    Veterans groups will come together around noon Sunday for a joint Memorial Day service in City Hall Park. The annual tribute to men and women who gave their lives in defense of our nation will follow visits to local cemeteries by American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars members.

    Cannelton American Legion members will visit several cemeteries Monday and will conclude their tributes with ceremonies in Cannelton's Gazebo Park at 11:55 a.m. and in Hargis Hafele Park at 12:05 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend local tributes to veterans this weekend.

  • Offices to be closed for Memorial Day

    TELL CITY - Government offices will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day.

    Federal, state, county and city offices will be closed for the day. In Tell City, there will be a one-day delay in trash pickup next week. In Cannelton, trash will be collected Tuesday of Memorial Day week for those whose normal pickup day is either Monday or Tuesday.

  • Grass clippings clog city storm-sewer system

    TELL CITY - Employees of the Tell City Wastewater Department and members of the community's board of public works and safety encourage residents to take steps that will prevent grass clippings from entering the city's storm-water system.

    Clippings blown into streets, left near curbs and even blown onto sidewalks are frequently washed into storm drains when it rains, potentially clogging inlets and creating other problems for the storm-water utility. Blowing clippings into streets also violates city ordinances. City leaders appreciate the public's cooperation.

  • Tell City, Troy fire hydrants will be flushed

    TELL CITY - The Tell City Water Department will begin flushing fire hydrants Tuesday. Work will begin on Fourth Street and proceed eastward. Residents may notice low water pressure or discolored water when crews are working nearby and should exercise caution when doing laundry.

    Troy Utilities will flush hydrants Thursday and Friday, May 28-29. Residents served by that utility may also notice low water pressure and discolored water when work is taking place in their areas of town.

  • Waters recede from Indiana 66

    PERRY COUNTY – The Indiana Department of Transportation announced Friday morning that portions of Indiana 66 between Rocky Point and Derby and from Derby to Sulphur have reopened.

    High water had closed the roads for several days.
