  • Agreement signed to provide power to Overlook Park

    TELL CITY - Perry County commissioners, during a meeting Feb. 20, approved a utility-reimbursement agreement for extending electric service to Overlook Park and a yearly software-and-support contract for its voting machines.

    The agreement between the county and Cannelton Utilities pledges the county to reimburse the utility $21,296 for the costs of supplies and equipment needed to provide electric service to the Eagle's Bluff Welcome and Interpretive Center. A groundbreaking ceremony for the project is scheduled for Friday. See story on this site.

  • Overlook Park groundbreaking is Friday

    PERRY COUNTY - The Perry County Parks and Recreation Department will host a groundbreaking ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Friday to celebrate the start of construction of the Eagles Bluff Welcome Center Project.

    "We've been working for this day for over seven years," said Dan Adams, director of the Perry County Parks Department.

  • Two seek school board seats

    Incumbent, newcomer place names on Cannelton ballot

    CANNELTON - One incumbent and one newcomer filed candidacies for Cannelton's school board ahead of a noon, Friday deadline for completing paperwork at the county courthouse.

    The terms of members Ed Bozarth and Bill Garrett expire this year. Garrett is seeking to retain his seat and Cory Faulkenberg, 4254 E. Indiana 66 hopes to assume Bozarth's position.

    "I was told there would be a seat open and I thought I could do some good," Faulkenberg said Tuesday of his reason for filing.

  • Police charge four members of D-Boys gang

    Assistant chief vows zero tolerance for gang activity

    TELL CITY - Two Perry County men alleged to be members of a small but organized gang of teens and young men are behind bars and face felony charges of criminal gang activity. Tell City police arrested them and two juveniles Friday night and Saturday morning after a Hawesville, Ky., teen was struck in the head during a fight at John F. Kennedy Pool in Tell City.

    Police said it wasn't the first case of violence blamed on the gang calling itself the D-Boys.

  • When tornadoes, severe weather strike ...

    To focus Hoosiers' attention on the threats posed by tornadoes and thunderstorms, especially during the spring season, Gov. Mitch Daniels has proclaimed March 2-8 as Severe Weather Preparedness Week. Perry County commissioners voted last week to approve a similar resolution to remind local residents to have plans in place when severe weather threatens.

  • Adams files for at-large council seat

    TELL CITY - Former Tell City Councilman Jim Adams announced Thursday his bid as a Republican candidate for the Perry County Council. He is seeking one of the three at-large seats voters will decide in 2008.

  • Ice makes for Dicey Driving

    Old National Bank employee Becky Davis scrapes a coating of ice from her car around noon Thursday outside the bank's main branch in the 500 block of Main Street. Davis wasn't scheduled to work in the afternoon, saving her from having to travel streets slickened later by freezing rain. The ice was blamed for a tractor-trailer rolling over on Interstate 64, minor accidents and scattered power outages Thursday night.
