    Board revisits elimination of town-marshal position

    TROY - A resignation from one position and the possibility of eliminating another topped talks at Troy's town council meeting Wednesday evening.

    Clerk-Treasurer Vicki Tuggle turned in her resignation letter May 9 in light of possible prosecution against her for allegedly not doing her duties. The News reported May 8 the town's council and utility board received a letter from the county prosecutor's office citing a town audit that allegedly showed certain duties have not been done.

  • Meth cleanup all-day job in Cannelton

    Police: Home crammed with drug-lab trash

    CANNELTON - State and local police labored Monday afternoon and evening to remove hundreds of glass and plastic jars, whiskey bottles and even cookie jars a Cannelton man allegedly used to make methamphetamine inside his Polk Street home.

    Timothy Sides, 46, faces a Class A felony charge of dealing in meth and several other related charges, including possession of the drug and ingredients used in its manufacture.

  • Hydrant flushing today, Friday

    CANNELTON - Cannelton Utilities will flush hydrants beginning at 7 a.m. today and continuing Friday.

    Residents may experience rust-colored water during the flushing, but should let the water run until it's clear before using.

  • Historic walking tour Saturday

    TELL CITY - The Tell City Historical Society, Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Historic Preservation and INShape Indiana will sponsor a walking tour of Tell City Saturday. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., maps and a souvenir will be available at the Tell City Historical Society Museum. The tour will highlight historic buildings in Tell City.   • Tell City council members to get stormwater-study update

    TELL CITY - City council reports offered last week included discussion on Greenwood Cemetery and Tell City's downtown.

    Councilman Gary Morton, a member of the Greenwood Cemetery Committee, said the process of creating walkways in a new area of the cemetery is making progress, and ruts created in the process are being taken care of.

    Bonar Group, a company that has been working on a stormwater study for the past couple of years, is due to make a presentation to the council June 2.

    Daughter: Upgrades reflect love Peck Goffinet felt for others

    TELL CITY - A Tell City Councilwoman who contributed money for a new kitchen and meeting room for city firefighters said the gift reflects the love her late father had for the city and his fellow firefighters.

    Improvements at the city's main fire station at 12th and Mozart streets will be named in honor of Leonard "Peck" Goffinet, Councilwoman Dianne Rudolph's father. As a firefighter and young father, Goffinet would allow his children to occasionally ride along to fires, Rudolph recalled.

  • Musical series kicks off Sunday

    Arts association tapping local talent for free shows

    TELL CITY - Tell City Regional Arts Association will have the first of five summer concerts from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at City Hall Park in Tell City.

    Music in the Park is a free event and the public is invited to bring lawn chairs, picnic meals or buy from available concessions. Concerts will be very third Sunday beginning this weekend and ending in September with rain-out dates the following Sunday.

  • Cast chosen for '1776' Schweizer production

    TELL CITY - A talented pool of men and women, on stage and behind the scenes, will return life to the Schweizer Fest stage this summer as the Schweizer Fest musical "1776" helps launch Tell City's sesquicentennial celebration.

    This year's cast was recently announced by Bob Godthaab, who will director the show. The production offers a musical version of the historical 1776 events in the Continental Congress leading up the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
