  • DNR offers online ATV safety course

    INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department Natural Resources law-enforcement and outdoor-recreation divisions are partnering to offer an online all-terrain-vehicle-safety course.

    ATVs and other off-road vehicles have increased in popularity over the past decade, but so have accidents. Indiana conservation officer Maj. Michael Portteus recently reported that ATV accidents have increased 40 percent over the past four years, from 153 in 2008 to 214 last year.

  • Help plan Tell City’s future

    TELL CITY – The public is encouraged to help shape what Tell City will look like 20, 30 and even 40 years from now by taking part in an information-gathering session for the city’s new comprehensive plan.

    The session from 2 to 4 p.m. March 9 will be held at the Schergens Center and will gauge the community’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

  • Drug charges filed against three people

    TELL CITY – Three people were arrested on drug charges in the past two weeks after separate investigations.

    Donald R. James, 54, of 904 Lauer Lane, Tell City, was arrested Feb. 11 on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of illegal drug paraphernalia.

    Tell City Patrolman Derrick Lawalin said officers received information and secured a search warrant for the home. Officers allegedly found several bags of methamphetamine, a small quantity of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

  • TCHS vice principal earns Lilly fellowship

    TELL CITY – A Lilly Endowment fellowship awarded to Tell City Junior-Senior High School’s assistant principal will allow him to take part in the nation’s second-oldest Ironman triathlon while adding to the health-and-fitness offerings available to students here at home.

    Chris Hollinden is one of 120 Indiana teachers, principals, guidance counselors and librarians to be awarded Lilly Endowment Teacher Creativity Fellowships.

    TELL CITY – “We’ve cussed and discussed this for three years,” County Councilman Alan Cassidy said at a regular meeting Thursday. That body adopted a resolution to use a half-percent income-tax increase to fund construction of a new county jail.
