  • Scott graduates from Purdue University

    WEST LAFAYETTE – Daniel R. Scott Jr. of Tell City graduated May 10 from Purdue University’s College of Technology.

    He earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering with a minor in disciplines of organizational leadership.
    He is currently employed by Aleris Aluminum Rolled Products as an engineer in Lewisport, Ky.
    Scott is the son of Joan Knable of Tell City and Danny Scott of Madison. He is the grandson of Eva Knable of Tell City, Mary and Arnold Scott of English and Ocala, Fla., and the late Frank Knable.

  • Supply lists for William Tell Elementary

    TELL CITY – The following are the school supply lists for all grades in William Tell Elementary School for the 2013-14 school year.
    KINDERGARTEN: one spiral notebook; washable markers; boys are asked to take wet wipes; girls are asked to take hand sanitizer; white glue; one family-size box of tissues; 24-count box of crayons; boys are asked to take a box of gallon size plastic bags; girls are asked to take a box of quart sized plastic bags.

  • Tell City-Troy Township announces bus routes for 2013-14

    PERRY COUNTY – The Tell City-Troy Township School Corp. is working with the city of Tell City with its “get healthy” initiative. Once again this year, there will be walking areas for students in seventh through 12th grades within Tell City. There will be no school bus services for this grades for students that live within approximately five blocks of the junior-senior high school building. For those outside this area, there will be designated stops that students living in that specific area will need to arrive at on their own if they desire bus service.

  • Dixon earns dean’s, president’s lists spots

    OWENSBORO, Ky. – Rebecca “Becky” Dixon, an English and Spanish major at Kentucky Wesleyan College, has earned spots on the dean’s and president’s lists for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years.

    She has also received the John Combs Award for Literature and maintained a 3.9 grade-point average. The dean’s list requires a student to have at least a 3.5 GPA.
    The president’s list is for students who are recognized for the highest academic accomplishments at KWC each semester.

  • William Tell Elementary School provides information on opening

    TELL CITY – Kindergarten through sixth-grade parents can take care of book rental fees and update students information either online starting Tuesday or at William Tell Elementary School during the following times: from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday; from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday.
    The textbook rental fees vary according to grade level. A complete list of book rental fees appears on Page 9 of today’s edition of the News. Bus routes will be posted in the newspaper later.

    TELL CITY – When a child enrolls in a school corporation for the first time, or any subsequent time and at any level, the parents must show either the student has been immunized or that a current religious or medical objection is on file. Parents must provide the school corporation with complete immunization records prior to the beginning of the school year.

  • SonShine preschool event set for Wednesday

    EVANSTON – SonShine Early Learning Ministry invites the public to their pre-school open house and registration from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the school, off Indiana 545 west of New Boston.
    If you are interested in enrolling your 3- to 5-year-old in a Christian preschool program and would like to meet the new preschool teacher, plan to attend this event.

  • Back-to-school cookouts planned

    PERRY COUNTY – School will start at all three county school corporations in a few weeks and the annual back-to-school cookouts to kick off the new school year have been planned.  
    There will be family events in Tell City, Leopold and Cannelton featuring getting-ready-for-school booths and activities hosted by school and community organizations and businesses as well as school-supply giveaways, entertainment and free hot dogs courtesy of German American Bank.
