  • Bishop among Commended Students in National Merit Scholarship Program

    LEOPOLD – Principal Jody  French, of Perry Central Junior-Senior High School has announced that Luke Bishop has been named a Commended Student in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. 

    A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, has been presented by the principal to this scholastically talented senior.

    In response to the recent opinion piece (Sept. 18 editorial, “By the numbers: Perry County should have one school district.”) I would like to offer some insight and clarifications that in my mind are pertinent to the claims made by the author.

  • Robotics grant enhances Cannelton school’s STEM

    CANNELTON – Students at Cannelton Junior Senior High School will soon begin a robotics program to bolster their science, technology, engineering and mathematics initiatives. The class was formed in part by a donation to the school.

    The Vex EDR robotics received were purchased via federal funds available through the Carl D. Perkins Grant.

  • Perry Central homecoming candidates

    LEOPOLD – The 2017 Perry Central Football Homecoming ceremony will be held at halftime of the varsity football game vs. West Washington on Friday evening, Sept. 29. Game time is 6:30 p.m.

    Their fellow senior classmates selected the queen and king candidates. The entire high school student body voted for the queen and king.

  • Field staged for 2017 Homecoming honors

    The Tell City Junior-Senior High School football homecoming ceremony will be Friday, Sept. 29, at approximately 6:30 p.m. before the Marksmen take on the North Posey Vikings at Legion Field.

    The crown carriers for this year’s ceremony are Ellie Teague and Gabriel Edmondson. Ellie is the daughter of Josh and Jennifer Teague and Gabriel is the son of Christopher and Natasha Edmondson.

    Freshmen representatives are Valerie Kehl and Kaden Chestnut. Valerie is the daughter of Eric and Amy Kehl, and Kaden is the son of Lee and Jennifer Chestnut.

  • 72nd Cannelton Elementary Fall Festival set for Oct. 25

    CANNELTON – The Cannelton Elementary Parent/Teacher Organization will sponsor its 72nd annual Cannelton Fall Festival from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25, in the Cannelton Community Center.

    Queen Candidates for this year’s festival are:

    Kindergarten, Brooke Poehlein

    First grade, Serenity Miles

    Second grade, Caitlyn Embry

    Third grade, Nora Lawson

    Fourth grade, Audrey Bodeman

    Fifth grade, Gabriella Stowe

  • Cannelton Schools enrollment steady

    CANNELTON – A graduation clock outside the offices of Cannelton High School gives precedence to the overall mission of those entrusted with educating the children who attend the city’s schools. The emphasis isn’t always about what the state says makes well-rounded students, but it’s an individual principle, one that balances modern academics to basic workplace skills.

  • TC senior a National Merit semifinalist

    TELL CITY – Leo Simpson, senior at Tell City Junior-Senior High School has been named a National Merit Semifinalist. Leo plans to attend Purdue University and major in Engineering and also pursue a graduate degree in Computer Science. Leo is the son of Kenneth and Sandra Simpson.

  • Fun-filled fall break day camps planned

    PERRY COUNTY – Fall Break Day Camps are a great way for youth in grades 3-12 to have fun and learn new skills in a safe environment. Purdue Extension is offering two days camps during fall breaks for Perry Central and Tell City schools. The programs will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Daycare will be provided at 7:30 a.m. Youth must be picked by 5:30 p.m. Lunch, snacks, program materials, and enrollment in the 2018 4-H program are included in the fee.

  • Student financial aid seminar Oct. 4

    Tell City Jr.-Sr. High School will host a financial aid night for seniors and their parents/guardians on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. in the school library. A financial aid representative will go over the Federal Application For Student Aid process for college. The school’s staff encourage seniors to attend this important meeting.
