  • Back-to-school cookouts planned

    PERRY COUNTY – School will start at all three county school corporations in a few weeks and the annual back-to-school cookouts to kick off the new school year have been planned.  
    There will be family events in Tell City, Leopold and Cannelton featuring getting-ready-for-school booths and activities hosted by school and community organizations and businesses as well as school-supply giveaways, entertainment and free hot dogs courtesy of German American Bank.

  • SonShine preschool sets open house for Wednesday

    EVANSTON – SonShine Early Learning Ministry invites the public to their preschool open house and registration from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the school, off Indiana 545 west of New Boston.
    If you are interested in enrolling your 3 to 5 year old in a Christian pre-school program and would like to meet the new preschool teacher, plan to attend this event.
    The preschool class meets from noon to 3:15 p.m. Monday through Friday and the junior pre-school class meets from 8 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

  • Tots Lots preschool enrollment info

    TELL CITY – Tots Lots Preschool has begun enrollment for the 2013-14 school year. For a child to be eligible for the Wednesday-Thursday-Friday session, they must be 4 years old by Aug. 1, 2012. This session will run from 8 to 11:30 a.m.
    The 3-year-old class is full.

    CANNELTON – Cannelton Junior-Senior High School has released the supply list for students preparing to enter sixth through 12th grades.

  • William Tell sixth-graders earn top ranking in We The People showcase

    TELL CITY – William Tell Elementary sixth-graders competed with other elementary schools in mock congressional hearings as part of the We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution program recently.

    Each class member became an expert witness on one of the five units in the text and then testified in small groups before a panel of judges acting as U.S. congressional representatives.

  • PCMH awards scholarships to local students

    TELL CITY – Perry County Memorial Hospital, the Perry County Memorial Hospital Foundation Inc. and the Perry County Mem-orial Hospital Auxiliary are pleased to announce the following scholarship recipients:

    Deni Taylor of Branchville, daughter of Dennis and Edna Taylor, earned the $500 Lewis C. Lohoff Memorial Scholarship Award. She is a graduate of Perry Central Junior-Senior High School, where she participated in FFA, German and art clubs, Students Taking Action Not Drugs and National Honor Society.

  • Cannelton High School registration Aug. 5

    CANNELTON – Cannelton Junior-Senior High School will hold registration for the 2013-14 school year Aug. 5 and 6.
    Hours will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The first day of school for the district will be Aug. 12.
    Book-rental prices for the school year are $43 for sixth-graders; seventh-grade books are $50 and books for eighth-graders are $50.
    Book prices for students in ninth through 12th graders will vary according to their individual schedules.

  • Cannelton cafeteria information for 2013-14 school year

    CANNELTON – The Cannelton elementary school breakfast and lunch programs will begin Aug. 12. The breakfast-lunch program is available to all children in the school and provides nutritionally balanced meals.
    Following is a price list of the various types of meals and prices available.
    Children from households that meet the Federal Income guidelines are eligible for free meals or reduced price meals for breakfast and lunch.
    To apply for free or reduced price meals, complete an application as soon as possible. Sign it and return it to the school office.

  • Cannelton Elementary class supplies list for 2013-14

    CANNELTON – Cannelton Elementary school has released its school supply list for children in grades preschool through fifth grade for the 2013-14 school year. Class for students begins Aug. 12.
    Preschool: One backpack; one box of Crayola brand markers, washable; one tub of disinfecting wipes; one folder; one supply box or bag; one box of Kleenex; one three-ring binder; one set of washable paints; construction paper; one box of quart or gallon baggies; crayons; glue sticks; one pair of Fiskars scissors for kids; one pack of Expo markers.
