    Tell City Junior-Senior High bookstore hours, opening information
    TELL CITY – Students in seventh- through 12th-grade who are new to the Tell City-Troy Township School Corp. are asked to come to high school for enrollment purposes between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Aug. 3 and Aug. 6. Students who attended William Tell Elementary last year do not need to enroll.
    Orientation for seventh-graders and any students new to the corporation will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 7.

  • Kast selected for William Walker Award

    TELL CITY – The Johns Hopkins Medical Institute has named Kristopher Kast of Tell City a 2012 William Walker Award winner.

    The William Walker Awards are granted to a small group of Johns Hopkins medical students who plan to engage in research over the summer between their first and second years.
    Judges select these students on the basis of quality of the study overall; significance of the student role in the study and relevance of the study to psychiatry.

  • Perry Central to host annual back-to-school cookout Aug. 2

    LEOPOLD – The annual Perry Central back-to-school cookout will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 2 in the school cafetorium.
    It will feature “getting ready for school” booths and activities hosted by school and community organizations and businesses.
    There will be entertainment by the Perry Central band during the cookout, bus rides for new preschoolers and the Perry Central cheerleaders will perform.

    William tell announces back-to-school information
    TELL CITY – All kindergarten through sixth-grade parents are asked to visit William Tell Elementary during bookstore-registration hours in August. Parents can also register online through Harmony.
    Book rental fees and updating student information can all be done during bookstore hours and on Harmony. Hours are as follows: from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 7; from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 8 and 9.

  • Cooper named to IU Southeast dean’s list

    NEW ALBANY – Heather Nicole Cooper has earned a spot on the spring 2012 dean’s list at Indiana University Southeast. This is her fourth appearance on the IU Southeast dean’s list.

    She is a junior nursing major and a 2010 graduate of Perry Central High School.
    Cooper is the daughter of Kurt and Carla Cooper of Tell City and Paula Cooper of Leopold.

  • Ball State announces honor students for spring 2012

    MUNCIE – Ball State University in Muncie released its list of graduate students and honor students for the spring 2012 semester.
    Local students named honor students for the semester were Kellie Suttle of Leopold, Kristin Truelove of St. Croix and Katelyn Bryant and Brittany Overstreet of Tell City.

  • Henrickson earns spot on WKU President’s Scholar list

    BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Eric Henrickson was named to the President’s Scholar at Western Kentucky University for the spring 2012 semester. 

    To be selected for this honor, one must compile an academic standing of 3.8 or better out of a possible 4.0 for the semester. 
    Henrickson is the son of Brad and Sandy Henrickson. He is entering his senior year at WKU and will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in physical education with a minor in teaching-health.

    Cannelton cafeteria information for 2012-13 school year
    CANNELTON – The Cannelton elementary school breakfast and lunch programs will begin Aug. 13. The breakfast-lunch program is available to all children in the school and provides nutritionally balanced meals.
    A price list of the various types of meals and prices was featured in the July 12 issue of the Perry County News.

    Lincoln Hills Development Corp. Early Head Start children and their families enjoyed a day together painting.

  • CCC Preschool accepting applications, introduces new kindergarten program

    TELL CITY – Community Christian Church Preschool, located at 821 10th Street, has openings available for the 2012-13 school year for 3- and 4-year-olds.
    CCC Preschool uses the ABeka curriculum, which includes strong skills in phonics, manuscript, math including number concepts and formation, language development, motor skills, social skills and Biblical principles.
    The program also includes arts and crafts, special guest visitors, special programs and field trips.
