  • Optimist essay winners presented awards at meeting

    TELL CITY – In January, students of Brandi Aubrey’s advanced composition class at Tell City Junior-Senior High School wrote essays for an essay contest sponsored by the Tell City Optimist Club each year.

    The idea of the essay is to help students develop their personal views on a certain topic. The topic of the essay this year was “How My Education is the Key to a Successful Future.”

    TCJSHS sports extravaganza, pep rally set for March 30
    TELL CITY – The spring All Sports Extravaganza for Tell City Junior-Senior High School will be held March 30 starting at 6:30 p.m.
    This is an opportunity for the community and school to demonstrate school spirit and community pride. The evening will begin with a parade, which will start at the corner of Washington and Main streets. The parade will continue to Jefferson Street and then east to 15th Street.

  • Underhill named to Vincennes University dean’s list

    VINCENNES – Elsa Underhill has been named to the dean’s list for the 2010 fall semester at Vincennes University.

    She earned a 3.8 grade-point average and majors in therapeutic massage and body work. She is expected to graduate in May.
    Underhill is the daughter of Eugena Boone of Magnet and Danny Underhill of English. She is also the granddaughter of Clara Aikin of Magnet.

  • Sandage earns University of Southern Indiana dean’s list honors

    EVANSVILLE – Spencer Sandage was named to the 2010 fall semester dean’s list at the University of Southern Indiana.

    To make the dean’s list, students must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.5. Sandage is applying to the USI nursing program, where he will continue his occupational therapy studies.
    He is a 2008 graduate of Tell City High School and the son of Scot and Gina Sand-age of Tell City and the brother of Jordan and Hunter Sandage.

  • Jordan earns spot on Indiana University-Southeast dean’s list

    NEW ALBANY – Breanna Jordan of Cannelton has been named to the Indiana University Southeast dean’s list for the fall 2010 semester.

    She is a 2010 graduate of Tell City High School.
    Jordan is the daughter of Susan and John Shepard of Cannelton and Steve Jordan of Indianapolis.

  • Courageous Basketball program at Cannelton

    Cannelton Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization sponsored an event with Steve Gronatta with Academic Entertainment for Courageous Basketball. Pictured here are first-graders Jenessa Sturgeon, Maggie Dawson and Logan Bishop spinning basketballs. The program’s message was to bring your best to everything you do, never give up and believe in yourself.

  • Local student admitted to UIndy honors college

    INDIANAPOLIS – Travis Jones of Tell City was recently accepted in the Honors College of the University of Indianapolis.
    Top freshmen in all majors are invited to apply to the program during their second semester at UIndy. Successful completion of Honors College requirements allows a student to graduate with distinction from UIndy, an academic honor bestowed upon graduation and noted on the student’s permanent record.
    The culminating project completed by each successful student is bound and housed in the collection of the university’s library.

  • Schank named to dean’s list

    OWENSBORO, Ky. – Clinton Schank, a 2009 graduate of Perry Central High School, has recently been named to the dean’s list at Owensboro Community Technical College.
    He is majoring in electrical engineering.
    Schank is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Brian and Becky (Goffinet) Schank.

  • Goffinet named to Kentucky Wesleyan president’s, dean’s lists

    OWENSBORO, Ky. – Lauren Goffinet, a sophomore history and secondary-education major at Kentucky Wesleyan College, has been named to the president’s and dean’s lists for the fall 2010 semester.

    The president’s list honors superior academic achievement by students carrying at least 12 hours who have attained a grade-point average of 4.0.
    To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must attain a grade-point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale while carrying at least 12 hours.
